Several years ago this thing used to be pretty good at pinpointing locations. Now it ISN'T EVEN CLOSE!

I am in San Jose, CA.
My server is in San Jose, CA.
My DNS server in San Jose, CA.

VisualRoute says I am in New Jersey.

ip-adress.com locates me faster and correctly. Don't waste your time on this peice of crap.

I downloaded this to try, but the install was a package. I really don't like those unless it's a trusted application and there is a need for that type of install. I can't see a reason for this app to have that type of install. I don't have a problem with dragging an app to the apps folder. I always try them at the desktop, if I like it then it moves to the apps folder. If I don't like them, I pull out AppZapper and nuke em. I really wanted to try this app too, I really did.

VisualRoute 2008 ReviewPainful and lacking expected features - Version: 10.0j, 12/19/2006 09:59AM PST

This program is painful. Not only is it a Java app, making it slow and in some cases ugly, the user interface is designed for a 4-year-old instead of a network professional. The important statistics are hard to get to or in many cases, completely unavailable.

If you're looking for a program help find network problems and show you real network information to help you resolve problems, don't buy this.

If you're looking for a program that will show a pretty picture of a map, a guess as to where IPs are located, and just barely scratch the surface of a network, this may be for you.

The link (as of 7-20-2005) is pointing to the 9.3d version, not the 9.3e version as one would be lead to believe.

$50? You're better off buying Intego's NetBarrier. Contains all these features and a lot, lot more - like a firewall, cookie filtering, antivandal and trojan protection, browser maintenance... Only $10 more.

After reading his rude comment, I checked their web site, and sure enough, there IS a 8.0d for Mac, dated today. Be nice boys.

$50 for a cutsie map doesn't do it for me.
You get the same info using Network Utility (in your Utilities folder on OSX) except the cutsie map AND Network Utility works with Airport.

VisualRoute 2008 ReviewTry right-clicking... - Version: 7.3b, 10/3/2003 09:26AM PST

if you need more ideas about what this tool can do. Right click or CTRL click on Node Names, Locations, Network names, and get a host of useful information especially useful when creating better firewall filters.

The PC version is more useful than the Mac version because it integrates with some of their other tools that haven't been ported to the Mac. But I like VR, and may buy it. I also have IPNetMonitorX and I find I need both for different reasons. It would be great if we could get tools like CommView and SmartWhois for Mac OS X.

So far, 7.3b is stable and working fine on 10.2.6.

VisualRoute 2008 Reviewlow value and incredibly overpriced - Version: 7.2a, 6/20/2003 05:20PM PST

i don't doubt VisualRoute has something somewhere going for it to justify the unbelievable price asked for here. problem is I just don't see what the hell it could be. compared to Whatroute (100% free. btw), IPNetMonitor or MacAnalysis this is a very nasty and very cynical JOKE.
