I have used Webdna (ex-WebCatalog) for years and since no improvements had been released, I went to PHP/MySQL. The language is much simpler and more flexible than PHP and 6.2 is almost perfect. I am glad to switch back to Webdna. Very active and effective support from a whole community, not only their support team.
A great come-back! - Version: 6.2, 6/6/2009 08:28AM PST

WebDNA is the only scripting language that includes a built-in efficient database system, something that neither php, nor asp or coldfusion can offer. With it, we built sophisticated applications for large companies, long before php became popular. Unfortunately, high license pricing killed it and there have been no real competition for php since then. Today, WebDNA is back, for free (first version)! In my opinion, the beauty about WebDNA is that the developement team started with a small set of powerful instructions but refrained from adding more, since the existing commands allowed to build almost anything you can imagine. With 50 to 100 instructions only compared to more than a thousand for php, you can build elegant web applications in surprisingly short time. But above of all, it is fun to use: WebDNA gives me a "mac like" feeling.. :-)
A great product

During the last 9 years, I have been using WebDNA (formerly WebCatalog) to build dynamic websites for my customers. I started alone, as webmaster and designer, and we are now 7. I remember it took me one week to learn WebDNA and start a pretty large project for a customer. None of my employees took more than that to become operative. WebDNA is a server side scripting language with powerful features, like accessing and collecting data from external sites, accessing shell, DOS or AppleScript depending of the platform, handling internal or external databases etc.. it mean you can build web applications that will interact with your heating at home or complex home control logic using Indigo (Remotely control any appliance or light, even your hot tub or alarm...) as well as some factory processes (had to build something like this for a customer), all available from the web. Complex intranet build like a breeze (accounting, knowledge management, e-learning...) but if you just want to use WebDNA for a simple form-to-email, well, you can! it is cheap for a product that powerful.
