Has anyone tried this? - Version: 1.01, 4/13/2009 08:57AM PST

I wonder how useful and reliable it is. I like to keep my old stuff in case I need to look, but it would be good to not necessarily be packing that old data around all the time. Does anyone have some experience with this?
Thanks,

This app does what it claims and is very simple to use. Simply select the calendar you want to archive (after you have backed it up), the date range of the back up and press start.
Here is the crunch however. It takes sooooooooooooooooooo long if you have a reasonable size calendar to archive. In my case, 4000 events. The progress box was too painful to watch. Each event took around 45sec to archive. Watching paint drying would make a more rivetting, extreme sport compared to this.
I'm not sure if the slowness was due to the sheer number of items, eg. had I broken the archive into smaller chunks it would have been faster. Given that this app is meant to 'clear the decks' of users like me, this shouldn't be an issue.
Interestingly, I tried their other app, ical sweeper which removes duplicates etc. I compared it to iCal dupe deleter and again, the performance was very slow.
My calendar has been running with this app for over 16hrs so far and is only 66% of the way through.
I suggest if you're going to use this and have a lot of events;
1. back up smaller chunks
2. Turn off any sync eg mobile me before running.
3. Make a pot of really strong coffee
In summary: nice in theory but almost unusable due to slowness in practice.
