Product Description:

Fontcase is a font management application that provides an elegant and powerful workflow to help you organise the fonts you have installed on your system. Designed to be an iTunes for your fonts, Fontcase has a powerful tagging system, which is designed to let you control your fonts like you control your music.

What's new in this version:

Plugins: Anyone with a little knowledge of Cocoa and Objective-C should be able to write their own plug-ins now. Some of the plug-ins provide some often-requested features like the ability to export your fontcase collections to the Apple Font Panel and vice versa. Of course these are all free.
Other Stuff: Other new stuff is support for Languages. They will now show up in the sidebar with your tags, genres etc. Also we now have better metadata about dates; the number of activations and the date you last activated a font. By popular demand, we now also display a badge in the source list with the number of fonts in that collection. Apart from that, we have a lot of bug-fixes, small feature improvements and some UI-refinements.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

Fontcase CommentaryFont Book - Version: 1.2, 8/3/2009 01:03PM PST

I think you mean Font Book, which has languished with little attention and less love from Apple since it first arrived some years ago. There's no Font Cataloque on English language Macs. That said, Fontcase does much more than Font Book, which is a bare-bones font management tool. If you can't tell the difference, then you don't know or care much about fonts. Whether Fontcase is worth the asking price is a matter of opinion. FontExplorer X Pro is almost twice as expensive at $79, and Suitcase Fusion is even pricier at $99.95. There are other font apps available as well of varying degrees of utility and at various prices.

Fontcase is a relative newcomer that has some unique features, some more appealing than others. At $42 it may very well appeal to those who haven't already shelled out the scratch for a higher priced app. It's certainly worth a look.

Fontcase is excellent for browsing, previewing and organising fonts. It may not meet the needs of professionals, but many ordinary users have hundreds of fonts installed. Fontcase will help them make the most of those fonts. If it works internally using Apple's own mechanisms, so much the better!
