what a feeling of relief when videos that I post which are copyright flagged-if they dont pull them-then they put a popup ad for Amazon on them; I feel that
For FREE;
I am providing high quality content for YT-TV stations have to pay to get programs, ya know
I am doing free publicy and promotion for the record company and group by making a video
all for art and personal satisfaction and no life
So how irksome to see ads pop up over my titles
and now NOT ONE of them pops up-in fact the ad flag and Amazon pull down menu is gone!!!

5 cheers for Glimmer!

GlimmerBlocker ReviewThis is my new ad blocker - Version: 1.4.2, 10/7/2009 09:30AM PST

I've used GlimmerBlocker off and on for a couple years, but was a loyal PithHelmet user, so I never switched until recently. GlimmerBlocker does not slow down Safari at all, which was the motivating factor in the switch. It hasn't caught as many ads as PH, but the offending ad sites can easily be added to GlimmerBlocker's black list. Adding sites is easy.

GlimmerBlocker ReviewWorks fine - Version: 1.4.1, 10/6/2009 01:07PM PST

This product replaces my previous ad blocker and URL shortcut add-ons, SafariBlock and Sogudi. When Apple gave input managers the heave-ho, I had to find something else, and this was the only free option. So I tried it. It's perfect. It's easy to configure, and the ads it chooses to block seem to be reasonable. I still get ads, but the annoying or NSFW ones aren't there anymore. If that's not good enough, you can configure it to block more ads. I recommend trying it.

GlimmerBlocker ReviewDoes what it says and it does it well - Version: 1.4.1, 9/30/2009 01:36PM PST

I'm not quite sure why people who don't understand the program are complaining. Personally, I've used Ad Blocker for quite some time. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I decided to give GlimmerBlocker a chance. Seems to do what it says it's designed to do just fine. Absolutely no stability problems that I've seen. Is it as easy to add items as it is in Ad Blocker? Not quite, but what you give up is ease of use, you more than make up for in stability. FWIW, you can create your own rules in the preference pane. After a week or so of browsing, I visit the preference pane to see if there are any "suspects" I want to add. Overall, great program for a great price.

GlimmerBlocker ReviewDangerous! - Version: 1.4.1, 9/13/2009 09:38PM PST

After downloading this, the disk image opened automatically and there was no presentation of the standard Apple warning to the effect: This is an application that you just downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it? Not only very naughty, how did the developer manage to over-ride this extremely beneficial warning?

Installation involves system files that are placed in places that a newbie would not intuitively understand. so why is there no uninstaller?

Immediately after installation, it would be normal practice to present a preferences dialog. Not this time! Go to its Preferences Pane and the options presented are so opaque no newbie could understand them. Unhelpful!

Again, after installation, Safari stopped working completely. Reason: This monkey of a utility reconfigured my Network/Proxy Server settings without asking. Again, no newcomer would ever figure out where to go to fix this insane and arrogant change in settings.

Avoid this bit of BS like the plague. The developer should be shot!

Plonk. And I hope like hell I've deleted _all_ of the offending bits of detritus. With no installation log, who knows?

GlimmerBlocker ReviewWay too problematic - Version: 1.3.3, 5/14/2009 05:13PM PST

After 2 months, I'm uninstalling GlimmerBlocker. It just causes too many problems, not only with Safari 3.2.1, but with other Internet apps as well. I have no time to list them all now, but I did want to add my low rating in order to warn others who would consider this app: It does effectively block ads in Safari, but the tradeoff is not worth that functionality.

GlimmerBlocker ReviewSlows down browsing - Version: 1.3.3, 3/17/2009 10:23AM PST

I've been using GlimmerBloker since installing Safari 4.0 beta. It filters out ads nicely, however, it slows down browsing dramatically.

It took me a while to figure out, as I first thought it was my ISP. Then I thought maybe the router, or my modem. The problem is intermittent, but when it's occurring, it will slow down ALL browsing. Eventually the problem will clear up for an hour or so, then it will come back.

Deactivating GlimmerBlocker brings the speed back to where it should be. When browsing slows, deactivating GlimmerBlocker solves the problem EVERY time.

Aside from this, GlimmerBlocker seems to have potential. For now, I'll hack Pithhelmet so it will work with the new beta Safari.

GlimmerBlocker ReviewBlocks Podcasts in iTunes - Version: 1.3.3, 3/12/2009 03:50PM PST

I tried GlimmerBlocker today. It did fine blocking ads in Safari, but it also prevented me from downloading podcasts in iTunes. Ugh! There may be a way to change the settings so this does not happen, but it's hardly worth the time to troubleshoot the issue. If blocking podcasts is a default behavior, I can only wonder what other hidden impacts GB will have. PithHelmet may "hack" Safari, but it does not have unintended system-wide consequences. I'll just have to wait for it to be updated for Safari 4.

GlimmerBlocker CommentaryI thought this was an ad-blocker...?! - Version: 1.3.2, 2/25/2009 05:16PM PST

:: MILE ::
It only seems to block a few animations, but about 80% of advertising is still all over the pages...!? Maybe I need to configer it all myself, but if it doesn't work "out of the box" I'd rather use something else...
