Back-In-Time's ability to clearly show on one screen what backups are available for a file or folder make the Time Machine much easier to use. Instead of having to grope and guess in Time Machine at where backups of a file might be you get the info all at once on one Back-In-Time screen.
Since I have only used the app for one day I didn't rate quality/stability--actually just stability, the quality seems great--but I have not had any problems during the time that I have used it.

This is an indispensable complement to Time Machine. It's very feature-rich; it tells me pretty much everything I could possibly want to know about what's backed up and when. It's fast, and intelligent enough to know if Time Machine is messing around behind the scenes. The interface is nicely thought out, to my way of thinking.
The only suggestion I can think of for the next version would be a way to select two versions of a file and put up the meta-info for both (icon, file type, preview, create/open/mod/backup dates etc.) side by side. A diff function to compare two files would be the icing on the cake, but might be rather hard for non-text files.

I just tried Back-in-Time; my MacBook Pro has the remote volume on the Mini that serves as the Pro's TM backup destination mounted. In fact TM just made a successful backup 20 minutes ago. I invoked Back-in-Time and when it's window appeared on the desktop, it told me "Time Machine Data not found". The mounted TM volume is on my desktop, but BIT couldn't find it. So I dragged the volume's icon into BIT, but again BIT said that no TM data could be found.
I opened the volume to verify that the sparseBundle file is there, it is. So for me, BIT can't reach my TM backups.
