This software is very comprehensive indeed. But although it was a good app in the old Mac OS 9 days, it does not give a very good user experience in Mac OS X.
I would rather suggest to look at Elements from Digital Science (http://sempai.free.fr)
It's not as comprehensive (yet), but offers a very good interface and very nice functions. Plus it's cheaper.

I have used this app for many years and financed BlackCat for several upgrades. This time I managed to receive an upgrade without paying for it. The brushed aluminium interface is a no no for an App like this. When complex information is to be displayed, it should be displayed in a functional and eye pleasing manner and one that permits the user to immediately grasp the meaning of the colours. Brushed aluminium adds nothing but distraction to the meaning of the interface. The app is comprehensive in its content and is therefore useful if you are lucky enough not to have to upgrade it.
I agree with all posts regarding the upgrade policy. It is not worth it hence although the interfaces are also overdone here are free alternatives:

or just search for Period in version tracker and take your pick

There are, of course, some features I'd like to see added, such as the ability to switch some colorings to a logarithmic scale. A display mode showing the properties of two elements side by side would also be useful. The best you can do now is put two property diplsys side by side (which, BTW, I don't believe is possible in Elements). Finally, a UI niggle - I often find myself double-clicking on an element box in the main display, which is interpreted as two clicks, one popping up the property display and the other putting it away. Double click should have the same effect as single click in this context.
I'd also like to see help viewer support, especially since that would be a way to provide detailed definitions of all the element properties the program can display.
