Product Description:

MacPhex is a Gnutella client / server program written in Java 2. This double - clickable application is Phex ready to go for the Mac. Starting it's life as Furi; It was renamed in case Furi is updated sometime in the future. It's what Furi would be today if it was still updated. It has almost all the features Furi has, plus more. MacPhex runs on os X (native). It has all the features of Phex plus a late breaking news file to help keep you informed.

This app. couldn't connect not even ONCE to ANY server. All connections are either refused, timed out, etc... Don't waste your time with it.

but with some creative packet sniffing I know whats wrong with it... its doing its handshakes wrong. I suggest the author get out a sniffer and check it out for themselves. it only connects to other 'broken' implimentations of gnutella here, or at the very least ones that are very forgiving (i.e. gnucleas)

the choice of Java could depend - I'm not the developer so I can't know surely - by the fact that this progamming language is platform independent like Python and unlike others, that have been built for a specific platform (es. CocoaBasic). Consider that: Limewire is written in Java; Acquisition uses the core of Limewire; XNap is also written in Java; and all these apps are Gnutella clients...
