Opera Reviewvery frustrating - Version: 10.0 release candidate, 8/25/2009 01:46PM PST

Opera has been my default browser for a long time, but the pre-release versions have lately all been very poorly integrated into the system and I am becoming frustrated to the breaking point. The browser is fast, reliable, full of features, and offers an unparalleled ability to customize the browsing experience. My frustration is with the development versions for Mac do not open web locations from other applications unless Opera is already launched. The best it will do if it's not open is launch and open the default page instead of the URL it's supposed to open. In some applications it returns the URL (somehow or another) back to the application - email client or news reader, for example - and causes that application to attempt to open it however it interprets the system message. This is supremely frustrating and just stupid, in my opinion. Opera needs to address this poorly planned development approach and eliminate this frustrating behavior. In the past couple versions, this was not correctly implemented until the actual release and that is way too late! This rating is based on the level of frustration this current pre-release version causes. While I expect this to be corrected in the final release, I can't KNOW that. When (if) it is corrected, I will consider this a five star app, but it's not even close with this major failing.

Opera CommentaryKeeps crashing when trying to open - Version: 10.0 beta 1, 6/6/2009 02:18AM PST

I take it no one else is experiencing repeated crashes upon opening? Trashed the version 9.64 Prefs and Caches to no avail.

Retrograded back to 9.64.

Ideas?

Opera ReviewA Big Leap - Version: 10.0 beta 1, 6/3/2009 09:30AM PST

This browser gets noticeably better with each version. This beta fixes lots of the 10-alpha's bugs and offers more options than Safari and is at least as fast. Big improvement over 9.

Not bad UI. Lots of features. And it's wicked fast, must more than FF 3.5b4 or Safari 4.0b1.

Opera Troubleshooting ReportDownload question - Version: 9.63, 12/20/2008 07:40AM PST

I have been trying Opera for several weeks, and thus far, I like what I've experienced. I do have one question about this specific download. My dmg download reads "Intel" in the name. I use a PPC Mac with OS 10.4.11 as my system software. Is this version for my PPC, or is this just for Intel? I'm just hesitant to install, after seeing the file name with Intel in it, if it may not be intended for my Mac. Otherwise, I do like Opera as a browser.

Opera CommentaryWon't work on PPC running 10.5.6 - Version: 9.63, 12/16/2008 08:38AM PST

Don't know if it's the PPC part or the 10.5.6 part, but disk image shows the circle-slash over the application and says "...not supported on this architecture" message when launched.

Opera ReviewReally nice - Version: 10.0 build 1139 alpha, 12/7/2008 01:25PM PST

GCG1000
In a word "spiffy"! Still has a couple of rough edges, but no show stoppers. You should see how they've improved M2, full RTF support and rock-solid performance. Trying OP 10 as my default browser and with their new rendering engine and an Acid Score of 100/100, it's pretty tough to find any major flaws in this app; it's only their first alpha release! Give OP a try.
