Very good but missing vital Mac controls

I can't believe that CrashPlan still has no Mac menu bar item to show backup progress and no way to temporarily stop backups. This has been the same for over 18 months now. I do not understand the blind spot here? Even the Win version has a CP tray item that pops up info when you pass the cursor over it. On Mac we have to open the very slow desktop app to even see what is happening. AS for stopping and pausing backups this is ESSENTIAL for the thousands of Europeans who use 3G data USB sticks for internet connection. These are all capped and a CP backup can easily make you go over the limit and cost money. Why won't you devise an easy way to stop and pause CP backup. You can tell I am pretty pissed off about this! Almost EVERY other backup service, Mozy, SugarSync, Dropbox etc all have useful menubar controls. What's the problem

Installed a version that says it is Tiger compatible. (simply says 10.4)
I'm running 10.4.6 and it says that it can not run due to my Java version.
Then CrashPlan suggests that updating my operating system "may" help.
The developers site also simply quotes 10.4
The application looks promising, however, if the installer itself is dubious, how can I bring myself to commit anyone's data to the platform?

I've been trying to get Crashplan to work with OS X to backup files from a MacBook Pro to a local network SMB mount point.
Even though OS X can see the mount point just fine and I can navigate the mount point with the finder, Crashplan fails to connect to the storage device. The Crashplan screen shows the device but fails to make the connection.
If this gets "fixed", Crashplan would be fantastic. But right now I would make sure you have other backup until Crashplan works.

After investigating all the backup alternatives, I decided to go with CrashPlan. The software works well. I have verified the restore process without a hitch. The support team responds rapidly and thoughtfully to questions. I highly recommend it.
