While no off the shelf package will rarely fulfill 100% of a user's needs, AccountEdge is a long running, full featured accounting product by a company who has had a long commitment to the Mac platform. I have used and supported AccountEdge for nearly 20 years and I no of no other company which actually listens to the end user as well. Oh yes, I know you can call support and either wait on hold (busy season) or get the new tech support rep who doesn't have all the answers immediately (at least they speak clear english). But on the whole, this company rocks. They care about the product and even more about the end user. I don't know how they could even stuff much more feature-wise in the box. For the price, there is nothing that comes close to the AccountEdge feature set on the Mac platform. It blows QuickBooks out of the water.

We have been an MYOB user for years. Yes it is an excellent package for small to medium business. You can also let your accountant take the data file and access it from Windows as most accountants are incredibly backward when it comes to Macs. However I did note the blurb above and want to take issue with a couple of things.
1 - Multiuser licence - now NOT supported from MYOB and will not be supported for ???? even if you have a SW paid support package. Their excuse? "Well Mac change their OS so often we just cannot keep up with it any longer." This is from a company which is facing a take over of AU$400m from a US company. I really wonder if they will stay with Mac - funny thing is they cut their teeth on MAC OS and then went to the PC market as well so they could make a buck!
2 - "Product Description:
You'll find that AccountEdge is an extremely capable accountant, a great executive assistant, a terrific customer relations manager". IMHO it will never be a CRM - too slow - it really is slow - half the speed of the PC version and if you can't multilicence it across platform and auto synch with your Palm or PC when anywhere in the world what's the point of calling it CRM? They say that you import and export name lists but not really - just the salesman getting off with their usual hyperbole.
3 - "AccountEdge 2009 also includes integration with Marketcircle's productivity suite Daylite" - read the versiontracker reports on Daylite. Wonder why they didn't choose a good cross platform front end device such as FileMaker or NowUpToDate? "includes integration" is the carefully worded description.
4 - Annoying things? Setting up a client who has say 3 addresses - no problem - mail, billing & delivery say. What if they are all the same? You guessed it - you need to enter all separately. Very annoying and when MYOB questioned about it - "you are the first to complain about that"!

I have used this software for many years. It has several strengths.
BUT if you do not belong to MYOB's own network of accountants, you should be very careful for two reasons before buying it. First that the upgrade costs and policies of MYOB are worse than almost any other company or developer. Second that completely on a random basis this software will seek to verify your registration with its website. Apart from being an intrusive, annoying invasion of privacy, I don't know what data about you it sends to MYOB or what it would do if you did not have the internet connection just at time the software wanted to check your licence. Would you loose all your data or continue your work if you can not establish contact with MYOB over a week end or holiday?
New users should purchase at their own risk because more expereinced ones would know about the above situation. There are many accounting products available for small businesses and non-MYOB network affiliated accountants.
