Zar is a browser and extractor for tar archives.
  • Allows you to browse tar files and extract specific files
  • Supports gzip and Unix compress tar files
  • Includes support for creating gzip compressed tar archives
  • Supports files with names longer than 32 characters (Expander doesn't)
    Zar lets you browse and extract files from tar archives with ease. Zar works with uncompressed, gzip-compressed, and Unix-compressed tar archives. Even users familiar with using the tar utility from the command line will feel more comfortable with Zar.

    archives, may crawl a bit on files larger than 1 gig, doesnt seem to extract at all. otherwise awesome!

    the public beta was screwed up, the one in OS X 10.0 works fine for me. The only problem has been when expanding files/folders which already exist and append a .1 but makes sure the .1 doesn't make the filename over 31 characters. Otherwise I haven't found any problems
