Product Description:

Morse Mania is a morse code tutor for the Macintosh. The software packagehelps you learn morse code at speeds ranging from 5 to 30 words per minute. Morse Mania is ideal for amateur (ham) radio operators who desire to learnor improve their morse code proficiency, especially in order to upgrade their license class. In addition to drills to help learn the various characters, Morse Mania also allows complete text files to be sent, so that "real life" messages can be used for practice. Koch mode is available, which is generally considered the quickest way to learn morse code. It also supports the Farnsworth mode, which increases the speed of the dots and dashes, and lengthens the pause between letters sent, allowing the student to learn morse code at higher speeds more easily.

You can also use Morse Mania to transmit morse code on an automated basis, using Applescript.

What's new in this version:

  • Added an option to send groups for a specified time period.
  • Total number of characters sent in the Send Groups exercise is displayed.
  • Koch mode now works in Send Letters and Learn Letters exercises.

The confusion is probably because the author assumes that the only people reading this are American. Maybe morse is required in some American situations, maybe not elsewhere. Another example of generally-nice people forgetting that America is only 4% of the world.

Also, look at those typing errors in the product description. In a product that relates to non-verbal communication, this does not inspire confidence.

read from Simpletext files, rather than the Plain Text files that Textedit creates. Otherwise, it seems to do a good job.

I'm in the military, and use MMX to practice for an annual morse code proficiency test. The only complaint I have is the lack of specialty characters I'm required to know (Specialized cut numbers & barred/accented characters). If you added these, or the ability to create specialized code sets (create your own characters), I'd have no choice but to give this software 5 stars
