Selecting Sheep causes freeze - Version: 2.7b15a, 5/1/2009 10:16AM PST

My Systems Preferences freeze and crash when selecting this newest version. I'm eager to have the issue fixed as this is a fine screensaver - if it's as good as earlier versions

I have been running Electric Sheep for over a month. When I ran the installer for this version, the installer ran for a few seconds and then put up an alert that said:
!Install Failed
The Installer could not install some files in “/./Library/Screen Savers”. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
OS X 10.5.6, 2008 iMac 24”

This seems to be the same version as I've been using for at least a year. Electric Sheep was my favorite screensaver when I had a PPC Mac and was running 10.4 Now that I have an Intel running 10.5, it won't work. It will start running fine, but at some point it will quit and the computer name screensaver takes over. Since I am sleeping while this happens, not sure why. I've done web searches to see what was going on, and found out that this has happened to other people also, but no one was able to offer any workable solution that lasted. Sadly, I had to stop using Electric Sheep. I was hoping a new version would correct whatever is going on, but this seems to be the same version that has been out for over a year at least. I recommend it for anyone still using a PPC though - it's awesome. I still use it on my old iMac that isn't hooked up to the Internet. I've collected almost 1500 sheep so it plays wonderfully!
It's nice

This version is not new. It's been out for over a year. I don't know why it just showed up here now.
Anyway, the concept is cool, and the visuals can be interesting to the point that you'd rather watch the screensaver than do something useful. The fact that this is video-based causes problems, though. It requires a lot of bandwidth and HD space to get a decent assortment of sheep, and the sheep are getting kind of low-res by today's standards. It would be cool if they had H.264 High Def. versions of the sheep for download.
I agree that it's completely ridiculous that the downloading is so slow and that the torrent downloading isn't built-in, and that will end up turning a lot of people away. If you have Vuze (Azureus) or another torrent client that supports RSS subscriptions, though, you can easily use that for your downloads.

I really can't recommend the Mac version of this. It promises a lot but has been sitting for hours on the downloading sheep screen with nothing happening. Needs more work.
Still no automatic torrent downloading :( - Version: 2.6.9, 1/11/2009 03:08AM PST

ElectricSheep is one of the best screensavers out there. However, the Mac OS X version gets little love from the developers: while Windows version has had built-in bittorrent client, used to download new animations, for quite some time now, Mac OS X version still uses old unreliable way of downloading them from an http server (which doesn't work most of the time) :(
