When are they going to release a new version of the Epson Printer Utility for the Stylus Photo 820 printer?

On my C2D Intel 24" iMac, 10.6.1
I installed this rascal without problem, but I see no improvement. All was dandy before. I suppose this is because an R340 is "old", and Apple/Epson somehow thought it (too) qualified for a generic update.
If Apple, or Epson, were on the ball (IMNHO) they would have included a list of N/A machines and ergo, Software Update would not show this as required.

Above is the URL for the Gutenprint site. If your Epson printer requires the Gutenprint driver to work with 10.6, it may well be better and easier to update to the latest stable branch version of Gutenprint rather than install the Apple Epson Printer Drivers monster on your hard drive.
The current stable branch version of Gutenprint is 5.2.4, which is one version past what is included with the Apple Epson Printer Drivers installer. It is 13.6 MB. Compare that to ~350 MB for the Apple package.
Just be sure your printer requires the Gutenprint driver by reviewing the Epson list at:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
Remember to AVOID the beta versions of Gutenprint, which could potentially hose your Mac. Stick to the stable branch ONLY. I've never had trouble with it.
