Product Description:

Timbuktu Pro is the premier remote control and file transfer solution for the “world’s most advanced operating system.” Timbuktu users can connect any combination of Macintosh or Windows computers via a network, or over the Internet. Functions include full remote control, observe only, fast file exchange, system profiling, text chat, instant messaging and voice intercom. Timbuktu Pro enables users to:
  • Reduce Call Resolution Time
  • Eliminate the Need to Travel
  • Resolve problems remotely
  • Collaborate virtually
  • Create a Seamless Environment without Expensive Hardware
  • Accomplish More in Less Time

If you have a computer at home and another at work, or if you need to transfer files between your Mac and PC, or if you would like to help family members, friends, or colleagues with their computers, you need Timbuktu Pro.

What's new in this version:

  • This version of Timbuktu Pro has been updated and optimized for integration with netOctopus version 5. The Timbuktu Pro for Macintosh installer tool is now included in the Shared Support folder.
  • Error reporting has been improved.
  • Timbuktu Pro no longer occasionally ignores successful UDP contacts.
  • The QuickTime recording feature, which allows you to record screen-sharing sessions, has been significantly enhanced. You may now record the sounds played on the guest computer during the screen-sharing session.
    In addition:
You may now record QuickTime movies using compressors other than the Animation codec from Apple.
When recording a QuickTime movie, you now specify the name and location of the saved file before you begin recording. This allows you to save the recording in a location with more disk space or onto a server.
When you specify the save-file settings, you may also change the video and sound recording settings. In addition, your changes are saved for future recording sessions.
The cursor is once again recorded in QuickTime movies.
  • Several other screen-sharing enhancements have also been made:
During screen-sharing sessions, clicking the right mouse button (right-clicking) now sends an old-style CTRL+click to host computers running older versions of Timbuktu Pro.
In the New Connection window, pressing CMD+ARROW switches connection tabs only if the SHIFT or OPTION keys are not also pressed. Now, when the guest computer switches monitors during a screen-sharing session, the connection tab is not accidentally changed on the host computer.
Autoscrolling performance on Jaguar computers has been significantly improved.
When you press the TAB key on the guest computer, it is now sent to the host computer even when Full Keyboard Access is turned on. System-menu keyboard commands are also sent to the host computer.
A 1.5-second delay has been added when you attempt to drag-and-drop from the screen-sharing window onto your desktop. This prevents "accidental" drag-and-drops. If you release the mouse button during the delay, drag-and-drop will not occur.
  • When using AppleScript to retrieve host-computer information from the New Connection window, the platform is now reported correctly.
  • The "Send and Stuff" AppleScript has been updated. It now works with Mac OS X and the current version of StuffIt Deluxe.
  • In previous versions of Timbuktu Pro, Control sessions were occasionally terminated unexpectedly when you dragged the mouse and a multi-file Exchange session was occurring simultaneously. This no longer occurs.
  • Some third-party USB camera drivers caused conflicts with the launch of Timbuktu Pro. This no longer occurs.
  • Files greater than 2GB in size are now handled correctly during Send and Exchange sessions, and their file size is now displayed correctly.
  • You may now use Timbuktu Pro to connect from a Macintosh computer to a Windows computer behind a Netopia R9100 route

Timbuktu Pro ReviewGood App, but Crummy Company - Version: 8.7.1, 7/17/2008 12:11PM PST

Well, every time there is an update they never post the link on their site. I have to call and request it. The guy on the phone was nice and cooperative, but prior to his answer the recording told me how I couldn't speak with a person without purchasing support. Naturally, all this did was annoy me further. This is such poor service.

Also, why is the Mac version serialized, but the PC version isn't? Mac uses are dishonest, and the PC users aren't?

What about that there still isn't a Vista compatible version availble after over a year?! Yeah, 8.6 sorta runs (32 bit only), but you can uninstall it, and you have to change a bunch of stuff in Vista to get it to work. Oh, and 8.6.6 doesn't work, you have to use 8.6.0 and only that exact version. Pretty sad....

Like I said in the title, the software is great. The management of the company is obviously lacking.

Oh yeah, to save others the trouble of calling, here is a link to 8.7.1. I hope it saves you the frustration.

A. Nony Mouse
The software works- but for the money you can get better. I would try TeamViewer first to see if that doesn't answer your needs.

Also, Netopia is doing it all wrong. Charge your fee for the product but end it there. Cost for this and cost for that will sink your boat. Value added will mean free support of your product for all items in the future- get on board and you'll be guaranteed a place in the enterprise- We stopped doing business with you because of the fees involved. Now- don't bother asking for meetings.. Our belts are tight as are those of others. But what's tens of thousands of licensed seats worth to you? Nothing right? Bah. Now I'm getting angry again.
