Product Description:

Opera 9.6 expands Opera Link, allowing you to synchronize your custom search engines and typed history between different versions of Opera 9.6 and Opera Mini. RSS Reader now previews feeds, enabling you to see a feed before subscribing to it. Opera Mail has useful new features including ignoring and following email threads and managing emails faster in low bandwidth mode. Speed has also improved, meaning you can browse faster than ever.

Opera 9.63 is a recommended security and stability upgrade, which also incorporates the Opera Presto 2.1.1 user agent engine, adds a thread button in the mail toolbar and shortcuts for follow (Ctrl/Cmd-D), ignore (Ctrl/Cmd-Shift-D) and go to thread.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed an issue where specially crafted JPEG images ccould be used to execute arbitrary code, as reported by Tavis Ormandy of the Google Security Team; see our advisory
  • Fixed an issue where plug-ins could be used to allow cross domain scripting, as reported by Adam Barth; details will be disclosed at a later date.
  • Fixed a moderately severe issue; details will be disclosed at a later date.
  • Added Untrusted Rootstore Capability:
  • Opera downloads only the detailed information about untrusted (blacklisted) certificates when they are encountered
  • If download fails for certificate information in the list, Opera considers any certificate matching the ID as untrusted
  • Added version conditional fetching of certificate dependencies from an online repository
  • Fixed a problem downloading the CRL (Certificate Revocation List)
  • Fixed a problem that could cause SSL to deadlock in one state, hanging the connection
  • Fixed a problem that could cause the incorrect calculation of Certificate IDs
  • Implemented Extended Validation (EV) for cross-signed EV Root Certificates not shipped by default
  • Implemented preshipping of the Entrust 2048 CA (Certificate Authority)
  • Implemented Root Certificate fetching from an online repository when an intermediate matches a certificate in the repository
  • Improved support for weak encryption when importing .p12 private certificates
  • Prevented security information documents from being written to disk

Opera CommentaryI updated from the previous build, but . . . - Version: 10.10, 11/23/2009 12:18PM PST

when I restarted Opera, it immediately crashed. I deleted, reinstalled -- it crashed on launch. I deleted it and all associated Opera files, installed an earlier v 10 build -- it crashed on launch. I had to go back to v 9.6.4 to get one that worked. I'm on an original Mac Pro running 10.6.2 with 5 GB RAM.

Opera Commentarystill facing 100% cpu issue on snow leopard - Version: 10.01, 11/20/2009 03:21AM PST

Im using snow leopard and I recently installed opera 10.01 and Im facing the issue of cpu utilization suddenly hitting 100%. It would be nice if there was a way of narrowing it down to a specific page if that was the issue. I used to a 9.x version of opera earlier on leopard and I frequently had 200+ tabs open and had no issue. On this machine I see this sometimes with barely 10-20 tabs open.

Opera ReviewWhy all the Complaining? - Version: 10.01, 11/14/2009 04:24PM PST

From day one, I have used Opera, happily paid them, and have used it ever since; the bookmarks can't be imported??? Dumbist statement I ever read; when I imported the bookmarks from Safari, I was given a message as to how many were imported; they are in their proper places, and the tabs rule! I use this browser because it has a small footprint on Ram; does what Firefox and the other guys do, and uses it's own password manager. I also receive "color coded"padlocks which tell me how secure the site is. The browser is stable and rock solid; those complaining remember, this browser is not the "love of my life" and I am no Opera fanboy, but I will post correctly without prejudice. It also "correctly imported" my mail, so along with my mail account, I also have an Opera mail account. I cannot help prejudice, I can however say, that my many years using this browser has given me more pleasure than Firefox, because lots of memory is used in Firefox, and I have virtually every feature with a "much smaller footprint" of ram usage. My time in using this browser goes to OS 9 days; dos that tell you that I have learned from Opera as well??
