MacJanitor CommentaryDoesn't work with Leopard - Version: 1.3, 12/8/2008 12:12PM PST

chorizo--2008
I used MacJanitor all the time until I upgraded to Leopard. It appears to run, but produces error messages such as "no such file or directory".

MacJanitor CommentaryAlternative MacJanitor for Intel Macs - Version: 1.3, 1/29/2008 12:00AM PST

There is not a macJanitor for Intel .... yet. But why not try the widget that does exactly the same thing. I've been using it and it does work. Check out www.giantmike.com and on the sidebar look for Maintidget. It's a great widget and well worth the price (free) and doesn't take a lode of space, always accessible and ready to go with Admin password. You can clean up daily, weekly, monthly or all three. I use it regularly.

MacJanitor ReviewA simple yet effective program - Version: 1.3, 11/29/2006 11:28AM PST

What more can I say? MacJanitor is the best at running the maitnce scrips, which usually will only run at night when your computer is idel. Run this program monthly and you will see the huge preformance boost.

Warning for intel iMac users: Because this program is still for PowerPC chips, there is sometimes a few glitches. For example, the program is supposed to close when the cleaning is done, but often it won't. You can still tell when it is finished however: the word DONE will appear in the progress text box. Once done is shown, you can safley shut down.

MacJanitor ReviewLove It - Version: 1.3, 11/3/2006 11:33AM PST

Love this app. Really simple and straight-forward. Love the control and ease of use. No complicated set-ups ... (my only suggestion would be to have some knd of basic set-up/howto instruction, i.e., 1-put in app folder, 2-launch, 3-hit daily and explain what happens ... or something, for real newbies like myself)

Thanks developers for bringing these tasks down to their simplest ease of use for people that want it.

MacJanitor ReviewIdiot-proof - Version: 1.3, 7/8/2006 05:09PM PST

As one who held on, and held on to OS 9, the move up to OS X was a whole new world. ("Permissions"? What are permissions?).

It was about a year before I learned of OS X's automated self-maintenance routines, which run at times of the day, week and month when my machine was off.

You can imagine the performance boost after I cleared a year's worth of gunk by running MacJanitor for the first time.

Or, if you don't have this application yet and therefore can't imagine, let me tell you...

I don't use benchmarks or performance tests, so it's all subjective. But gee, my Mac just seems to fly now. And did I mention it was idiot-proof?

For an OS X novice who uses his or her machine during the day only, this is exactly what you need.

MacJanitor ReviewGreat little app - Version: 1.3, 3/30/2006 10:16AM PST

Some tech heads might like all the bells and whistles of Cocktail or Onyx, but this handles the basic clean up tasks with screw-up free efficiency. An indispensible app.

MacJanitor Usage Tipmonitoring progress - Version: 1.3, 11/29/2005 12:24AM PST

I don't know how, but this app has fixed unexplained slowdowns on my iBook in both Panther and Tiger.

I find that sometimes I get more detailed progress reports if I run the tasks one at a time (but not consistently).

What I do to reassure myself that it hasn't hung, is to run Apple's "Activity Monitor" utility, and display the processes hierarchically. This shows me where the CPU is getting consumed, and I can watch the child processes come and go as the tasks go about their business.

On a UNIX like OS like OS X this application is completely pointless. Every other UNIX like OS out there uses Anacron to do the same thing. Why not just use Anacron for OS X?

Anacron for Panter/Jaguar: http://www.alastairs-place.net/anacron.html

MacJanitor ReviewDone yet, how about now. - Version: 1.3, 8/21/2005 09:27PM PST

This has got to be the lamest app I've ever used. After 45 mins it was still running. The only good thing was that there was a cancel button. When I run CockTail or ANY other maintenace app it only takes a few mins. Do yourself a favor and download Cocktail or OnyX instead of this wort.

MacJanitor ReviewCreates leaner systems. - Version: 1.3, 8/17/2005 10:29PM PST

I've been using MacJanitor for more than 3 years on numerous Macs with great satisfaction! Although I partially agree with the previous post: perhaps MacJanitor should tell you with some kind of simple but perhaps a bit more visible warning to be patient, wait, I give MacJanitor 5 stars heartily! Look at how small this program is! That's another sign of quality to me. Great name and icon too, thus I can actually get some people to use it!
Yes, it'll often take a Mac 3, 4 or more minutes to complete all tasks, but I've never even considered interrupting MacJanitor; that seems like a mistake...

If you interupt these tasks, well - don't. They're too important.
If you're Mac hangs with MacJanitor, I'll wager heavily that it has other significant issues, and I'm not a gambler.
Apple should incorporate MacJanitor right into the OS- it's that good. If not, make it donation-ware. I'll pay.
I can't evaluate the directions or documentation, I never needed them.

best wishes.
