scottbolgerWarning for intel iMac users: Because this program is still for PowerPC chips, there is sometimes a few glitches. For example, the program is supposed to close when the cleaning is done, but often it won't. You can still tell when it is finished however: the word DONE will appear in the progress text box. Once done is shown, you can safley shut down.

Thanks developers for bringing these tasks down to their simplest ease of use for people that want it.

grant_brookesIt was about a year before I learned of OS X's automated self-maintenance routines, which run at times of the day, week and month when my machine was off.
You can imagine the performance boost after I cleared a year's worth of gunk by running MacJanitor for the first time.
Or, if you don't have this application yet and therefore can't imagine, let me tell you...
I don't use benchmarks or performance tests, so it's all subjective. But gee, my Mac just seems to fly now. And did I mention it was idiot-proof?
For an OS X novice who uses his or her machine during the day only, this is exactly what you need.

monitoring progress - Version: 1.3, 11/29/2005 12:24AM PST

CVASchmidt_1I find that sometimes I get more detailed progress reports if I run the tasks one at a time (but not consistently).
What I do to reassure myself that it hasn't hung, is to run Apple's "Activity Monitor" utility, and display the processes hierarchically. This shows me where the CPU is getting consumed, and I can watch the child processes come and go as the tasks go about their business.

LickableunixYes, it'll often take a Mac 3, 4 or more minutes to complete all tasks, but I've never even considered interrupting MacJanitor; that seems like a mistake...
If you interupt these tasks, well - don't. They're too important.
If you're Mac hangs with MacJanitor, I'll wager heavily that it has other significant issues, and I'm not a gambler.
Apple should incorporate MacJanitor right into the OS- it's that good. If not, make it donation-ware. I'll pay.
I can't evaluate the directions or documentation, I never needed them.
best wishes.
