OpenOffice.org CommentaryIt's not NeoOffice - Version: 3.0rc3, 10/13/2008 11:06AM PST

I tried to use the app and it wouldn't open a file of mine as well as NeoOffice. NeoOffice presented the file correctly and this one formatted it wrong. This app still has a ways to go to catch up. I'm not going to try it again until 3.1

OpenOffice.org CommentaryThey don't even bother with Universal binary - Version: 3.0rc4, 10/9/2008 08:23AM PST

Why wouldn't Mac users keep using MS Office and NeoOffice, iWork while they don't even bother building a PPC binary?

Who are they not to support PPC anyway?

It's like switching methadone for the heroin.

The point of dumping MsOffice is to say goodbye to bloat, dunderous user interface and slow performance.

A copy of a poor model is just a poor copy.

I switched to mean, fast and simple with iText Express (free) and iText Pro '08 (US$15) both brilliant examples of what programs should be on the Mac. I keep finding new uses for them from managing my DLs and links to simple DTP. They are permanently open on my Mac and absolutely indispensable.

OpenOffice.org Troubleshooting ReportWARNING: changes file associations - Version: 3.0b1, 7/7/2008 05:10AM PST

Installing this changed the default file associations for office documents, without any warning (that I saw). That's unacceptable, particularly for beta software.

I also noted that it truncated the left-most character on one slide of text when that text was too big for the bounding box.

I can't get it to work. I have X11 installed. There's no easy way to get help from the developer.

I have just downloaded the beta version of OOo 3.0 (macnative,i.e., without X11) and am quite impressed (sic)! It is somewhat faster than NeoOffice, and passed all my torture-tests.
