MultiXFinder version 0.4 is now available for download. It is Snow Leopard compatible and seems to have the same functionality as ASM. Best of all, unlike ASM, it is freeware.
Me, too. But...

I bought my dang copy back in 2002! And he even lowered the price. I wish he'd warned me about the upgrade, but it's nice to see Frank finally ask for a little change :) Anyway, ASM is absolutely the greatest. I couldn't get through my day without it, and neither can anyone else I know who's ever tried it. Thanks again for great app, Frank!
Ditto on the lack of installer warning for update cost... - Version: 2.3, 9/2/2009 09:49PM PST

I just don't like the surprise of now having an unregistered copy with out paying same US price as initial price (granted 2002) for me.
Installer should have had a warning.... - Version: 2.3, 9/2/2009 07:23PM PST

....that the registered version will be over-written. GraphicConverter and Default Folder, among others, warn about the change in license and give you an immediate chance to change your mind.
I for one didn't read the "what's new" til AFTER the reg. dialog came up. Not too sporting....

ASM has been in my collection of must-haves for many years. I like the App Switcher aspect but I really depend on the "Classic Window Mode".
The developer has delivered a fast clean upgrade. I jumped right on it and even paid the Family License (even thought I don't have one :-). But I do have both a desktop and a laptop and for the cost it is a great helper.
Thanks for the fast fixes! And I hope the number of people who feel your paid upgrade is worth the small cost FAR outweighs those who are griping.

X-Assist and multiXFinder - Version: 2.3, 9/2/2009 03:19PM PST
Demolition
Al Varnell mentions a couple of good alternatives for ASM if you're balking at the upgrade fee for ASM.
X-Assist still seems to work with Snow Leopard. It's a little bit primitive compared to ASM, but the basic functions (i.e. application switcher menu and classic window mode) are there.
Meanwhile, Jack Overfull says that he's working on a new version of multiXFinder (v0.4). At the top of the list is Snow Leopard compatibility. It should be available sometime this month. That's good news for people who like the way that ASM operates, since it's basically the same app.
Personally, I'm debating whether to pay the upgrade fee. I've been an ASM user for several years and had assumed that the upgrades would continue to be free. But, nothing lasts forever, I guess. I'll probably try X-Assist for a while, then multiXFinder when a 10.6-compatible version arrives. If they don't work out, then I can always ante up the dough for ASM again.

See if either of the freeware applications X-Assist or MultiXFinder will suit your needs.
Why are registered users being charged the same as new users?

I certainly don't mind paying $9+ for an upgrade to this admirable little app having used it and its frequent updates for seven years without any additional payment, but why, oh why, are existing registered users being asked to pay the same as new users? Surely something like $8 for registered users and $12 for new users would have been more equitable, wouldn't it?

I absolutely will NOT pay $9+ upgrade price for a desktop accessory.
