IntelliMerge ReviewIrritations - Version: 5.1, 11/7/2006 07:14AM PST

I hesitate to rate IntelliMerge until I can compare it to something else. But the point is, I will compare it to something else because of these events. I have used it for 12 Bulk Emails

Pleasures
>Entering custom HTML or Plain text is cut and paste simple.
>Easy to follow navigation. Took fear out of the process. (Note, I have someone else do my HTML programming. I just cut and paste out of BBEdit Lite.)
> Failed emails are clearly identified
> It works; with the following caveats.

Irritants (in order of appearance):
> Import maps to the wrong fields when the address has a paragraph mark for two address lines. This can put the email in the wrong field.
> This software cannot be programmed to deliver a specific number of recipients per hour. IntelliMerge admits this in their documentation. This means dividing larger databases into smaller ones. This is tedious.
> Large databases cannot be split into smaller ones inside Intellimerge; dividing must be done in Filemaker, Excel, Now, or other program.
> The "Send Later" function cannot be programmed to handle more than one database at a time. You can tell it to send one db at 6 AM central (for 7AM east coast delivery), but you cannot ALSO set the batch to go at 7, 8, 9, etc. It can only send the one at 6 - you'll have to wake up to send the one at 7. This reduced the program from an automated helper to a program that had to be babysat. After the first batch, it's a one-at-a-time manual program.
> If you type a "7" into the "Send Later" date, it will default to "17." You have to type "07."
> When you tab to the default 10PM setting, no matter what number you type, it simply will not change the first time. You have to cancel, re-enter, and then it will change.
> Documentation, while logical and infomative, does not get into detail. I could not find, for example, whether to use the "set it" function to change the "import" status to "ready." It doesn't explain what "set it" really is, and the differences between the many options in it.

Bottom Line: It works, I bought it, I can create work-arounds. But I will look for something that allows me to time my sending rather go through the tedious process of breaking databases up.

IntelliMerge ReviewNo database integration... - Version: 5.1, 9/15/2006 12:29PM PST

I finally got an answer (after several attempts) from their tech support staff about an issue I was having with Filemaker integration. I was told:

"the examples included with IntelliMerge are no longer supported."

Even though their website states:

"Database integration examples included for AppleWorks, FileMaker, Microsoft Excel, Now Contact, and Valentina users."

Bummer!

IntelliMerge Developer NoteThanks for your suggestions. - Version: 5.0, 4/26/2006 07:23AM PST

Friends,

We've recently released IntelliMerge 5, and in doing so addressed the criticisms most of you have had in reading your comments -- that we don't have release notes, nor do we have solid documentation.

I'm pleased to report we've resolved both of these issues with the most recent release.

Here's the release notes:

http://www.intellisw.com/intellimerge/whatsnew.html

Here's the documentation:

http://www.intellisw.com/intellimerge/documentation/documentation.pdf

Please don't hesitate to contact us directly if we can assist you in any way with the IntelliMerge software. Our tech department is always happy to help.

I use the IntelliMerge SQL product from this company. It's really a nice software application -- very usable interface, loads of features, very stable, very well thought-out and designed. Support from the company is always prompt and helpful. Everything about this company reflects top quality -- except documentation. The SQL product, like this product, has no user documentation. Bummer.

IntelliMerge ReviewMy Review - Version: 3.5.2, 12/28/2003 03:50AM PST

This is a good program and is reasonably easy to figure out how to use the basic features. Unfortunately the only help documentation available is for version of 2 of the product (current release is 3.5.2 doesn't come with any) and it is impossible to find a link to the help page at the developers website. They are not very helpful in this regard either:

Here is a transcript of an email session i had with the developer recently on this issue:

Me: how are people supposed to work out how to use this program?
Them: I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Me: The only documentation i can find is over 2 years old and appears to be for version 2?
Them: Yes, that's correct. The currently available document is available here: xxx

Me: when is new documenttion being prepared for the new features added?
Them: I'm sorry, but I can't discuss unreleased product information, timelines, or future release plans per company policy.

The developers offer to provide help and support via email but that's not much use when i have to get an email out NOW and can't figure out why half of the messages can't be sent because of "Protocal Errror 450".

... so if this doesn't bother you grab a copy.

For the wishlist: I'd like to be able to send a HTML or TEXT message dependant on the recipients preference but this is not possible (or, without any help documentation I can't work out how to do it) at the moment.

IntelliMerge ReviewI would NOT… - Version: 3.2, 2/18/2003 11:54AM PST

spam with this software if I "had it for a few bucks". What I would use it for is sending out family newsletters, announcements, birthday invites and dynamic emails to my friends. So I don't use it for commercial reasons and if I did, I would pay the 80 bucks for it, but it is still high priced for what I want to do. BTW, I use to be Paul Wharff and now I'm /usr/bin/Paul
