This program. ver. 8.6 made my home folder disappear right after installing it. I had to go into my guest profile.. looked in the users folder and my profile folder was empty. I downloaded the program again and used its uninstaller and my home folder reappear ..... scared me bad.
Before uninstalling I did try a few things from the new profile I had just created.. I couldn't even repair permissions..

VirusScan-Mac now available for Single Users - Version: 8.6, 11/29/2007 12:55PM PST

VirusScan (the software formerly known as Virex) is now apparently available for single users (licensees) for $36.55. Previously, the minimum order was either 3 or 5 "Licensees".

The latest build (version 8.6, 11-01-07) supposedly works with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and 10.5 "Leopard". See MACNN article: http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/11/29/virusscan.filedefense/
I've been monitoring this McAfee situation (for several years) waiting for a stable, single-user update. I'm still using Virex 7.2 (v1.1) [AKA Virex 7.2.1] on a system running 10.4 Tiger. I use "Get DAT Updates" to keep things up-to-date.
I'm not sure whether to update now, or just forget about this program when I upgrade to Leopard. Has anyone tried this latest update yet?

Is Mcafee Virus Scan available for home users? - Version: 8.6, 11/18/2007 04:59AM PST

Is this app even available for home users? The link to the developers site is dead and I can't find any trace of a Mac offering at the Mcafee website (which is not Safari friendly, BTW).
What's the deal?

Once you go through the hassle of getting this turned on with grant numbers, etc. it works fine. I've not seen that many viruses on the Mac, but it had found a couple, plus PC viruses in email attachments, etc. It runs automatically every night on my machine. My only complaint is that when done running, it should self-terminate. Instead, it is sitting there on my desktop waiting for me to dismiss it every morning.

The second it was installed and restarted, I only got about 5 seconds of system response for every 5 minutes of spinning beachball. HORRIBLE! The problem stopped as soon as I uninstalled. No other changes were made during this testing.

Please note that Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher) or Firefox 1.5 (or higher) is required to purchase and install McAfee products.
To continue, please return to the previous page using Internet Explorer or Firefox."
This should wrap what would you expect from a company making antivirus to run on an advanced OS like Leopard. Nothing.
Sad thing is, Intego really needs a real rival to stop their insane pricing policy. With rivals like these, there is no hope.
