I'm an illustrator and use elements primarily as a creative tool (google dkzn/dickson) ... I was using version 3 on an intel mac so was experiencing some incompatibility problems, the most irksome of which was PE's habit of crashing while in the process of saving something and, thereby, wiping out the work I'd wanted saved ... so I was impatient for the release of this universal version and, so far, have been very happy with its features and performance ... the only problem I've had occurred shortly after I downloaded it — while checking out it's features, it crashed a few times ... thinking I might have a space problem, I reorganized the content on my external hard drive so that I could completely free up one of its three partitions ... this gave me a block of unfragmented space, as recommended, to assign as my second scratch disk ... whether or not this explains it, I've had no crashes since
Yes, folks, there is a trial version... - Version: 6.0, 4/19/2008 11:50AM PST

The Elements 6 page at Adobe offers two buttons up front - Buy and Trial. A trial seems like a good idea, especially given the amount of negative feedback here. The trial version gives you 30 days to fool with it from the first launch. It's the full download, which is BIG (1.2+ G), and took about 20 minutes to download with Fios at about 1 Mb sec. Installation was very slow, but then, I have a creaky old 700mHz flat panel (OSX 10.4.11), and it worked first time out. I plan to wait to start the trial until I have time to spend with it, but so far I haven't experienced any of the download/installation issues mentioned below. Who knows? Maybe it will crash, fail to open, maybe my Mac will explode, but I've never had any problems downloading Adobe software in the past.
I have no clue why Mac users aren't redirected to that page when they click "trial".
It will need a Adobe Account (free reg), download size is 1.2 GB, can buy inside application (no need for DVD purchase)
