What's new in this version:

  • Send IMs to your Buddy's SMS Mobile Phone - With AIM Mac's new IM to Cell feature, you can easily stay in contact with your buddies, that have SMS (Short Message Service) enabled mobile phones. It is an excellent way to stay in touch with your buddies even when they are from the computer. Just add the mobile number to the Buddy List and you are all set!
  • Communicate with ICQ Users - Tired of having to sign on to ICQ to communicate with ICQ users? Now you can add your ICQ buddies to your AIM Buddy List and send/receive Instant Messages. Click here for more information.
  • Multi-point File Sharing - With AIM Mac's new File Sharing implementation, sharing files with your buddies has never been easier! You are no longer required to have one Shared Folder; instead, you can share files from multiple locations. Just drag a file or folder from anywhere on your computer into the My Shared Files window and it will automatically be shared--without changing the file's/folder's location.
  • Mobile IM - Now you can have Instant Messages delivered to your mobile phone when you're away from your PC! With the AIM Mac 4.6 beta, you can be online, all the time, anywhere. Register your SMS-enabled mobile phone with Mobile IM, and you'll continue to receive your IMs after you sign out of AIM. To activate or deactivate Mobile IM for your Screen Name, click the IM Tab in Account Settings.

Please...what's the point? The only thing this things good for is allowing other mac users a way to use FAR superior iChat... without having to pay for a mobile me account.

I mean c'mon... "you can send your pictures to all your buddies?" Ya know, there's this cool thing out there,.. it's called "email."

I find it amusing that AIM was an editor pick (fancy blue text) for years, but now it's not even worthy of an editor mention anymore. the fact that not even macupdate or versiontracker support it anymore as BOTH have removed it from editors picks says something in that of itself. AOL should really take a hint and either fix it by completing the feature set to actually be useful or just give it up again like they did before.
