OpenSSH Troubleshooting ReportCompiling and running on Mac? - Version: 4.7, 9/14/2007 11:00AM PST

Downloaded the portable version OpenSSH 4.7p1. Using OpenSSL 0.9.8e and installing that and following some other useful information in the Problems README of OpenSSL, I was able to get SSH to compile without a problem. SSH itsetf appears to work just find. The SSHD for 4.7p1 appears to not allow the user to log in. Has anyone compiled a working copy of this for the Mac. Any hints on what I might be doing wrong. I put back the old SSHD, and it works just fine, until I can figure out where things went wrong.

OpenSSH CommentaryFink or DarwinPorts - Version: 4.2, 9/2/2005 10:25AM PST

OpenSSH is of course, already built-in to the Darwin BSD backend of OS X. However, if you want to use a version that may be newer or configured differently than the OS X default, the best way is to install it via the Fink or DarwinPorts package managers. This avoids the possibility of messing up your system by replacing Apple's install. Tiger 10.4.2 currently includes version 3.8.1, Fink has version 4.0, and DarwinPorts has version 4.1.

This version is not the one you need, you need to use the source of the portable version you can download from http://www.openssh.com/portable.html

then you can use instructions from http://www.stepwise.com/Articles/Workbench/2001-12-17.01.html to install.
