OpenSSH is a free version of the SSH suite of tools that are fully compatible with the three existing SSH protocols. They're free of the commercial use licensing restriction of the original SSH 2.x products, and can be built and installed with a minimum of fuss.

Downloaded the portable version OpenSSH 4.7p1. Using OpenSSL 0.9.8e and installing that and following some other useful information in the Problems README of OpenSSL, I was able to get SSH to compile without a problem. SSH itsetf appears to work just find. The SSHD for 4.7p1 appears to not allow the user to log in. Has anyone compiled a working copy of this for the Mac. Any hints on what I might be doing wrong. I put back the old SSHD, and it works just fine, until I can figure out where things went wrong.
