Web Confidential CommentaryWebCon available on all computers unlike 1Password - Version: 3.8b4, 3/21/2008 02:54PM PST

I'm about ready to adopt a new password, etc. manager. I believe I see a benefit to WebCon over 1Password that perhaps others might want to consider.

I use several computers in several geographic locations. Since the WebCon datafile can be stored on my iDisk, I can use it anywhere on any Mac or PC computer which has the WebCon app installed. Unlike KeyChain-based 1Password, as I understand it, which presumably is limited to the one computer where it's stored in KeyChain.

I'm still using, depending very heavily on the old and great Classic app. Dynodex which hasn't been updated since 1992- it still works perfectly thanks to great programming by Portfolio. But I worry about continuing to use Classic and of course it offers no special security or interaction with web sites.

I feel safe and secure having my passwords stored with this app. Besides passwords all my oddball data, software keys, combinations, and online banking info, etc is also stored here. Now that Apple has released the SDK for iPhone maybe there will be a version for that as well. I still use the Palm O/S version of WC also and even though I don't carry that around with me like the iPhone, it's there when I need it.

Thanks Mr. Blom for an awesome app that is simple, works well, and makes me feel confident that no one will ever get into my personal data.

I have had WebCon since OS9 and the Palm V. Good to read the post below, I hope Mr. Blom feels better soon and can post an update soon. I would say that for those of us who have basically not moved to Steel (or another program) due to loyalty and good past experience, I hope the UB is a point release and not a paid upgrade. The version after that, on the other had, should definitely be 4.0 and I'd be willing to pay for it.

Web Confidential ReviewNeither WC nor Alco are dead - Version: 3.7.6, 7/3/2007 08:46AM PST

I was alarmed at some of the posts in which people vented frustration with lack of updates, especially regarding release of Universal Binary. These issues have not bothered me personally, because WC continues to function for me (MacPro, Intel, dual 3.0 running 10.4.10) quickly and in its usual rock solid manner. It continues to sync with my Palm Treo giving me access to all of my data anywhere I travel (although my new iPhone makes that a mute issue). In many years of use, zero problems with this program and prompt replys to all of my inquiries made from time to time of Alco. So, I too was puzzled by his low key posture recently.
So, I emailed him and got a response, as usual, within a few hours. Turns out that Alco has been ill, but appears to be on the mend and remains intent on delivering a Universal Binary version of WC and remains committed to the program. I do not, however, have specifics or a timetable. BTW, I do not know Alco personally and have no relationship to him professionally.
I agree that Alco would benefit from some public relations consultant advising better communication with his customers, but other than that I have full faith in him and his product.

Hi Alco,

purchased web confidential and URL manager years ago but there hasn't been an update in ages. Could you please let you loyal customers know whether you still develop web confidential and URL manager pro or whether we have to move on to alternatives.

A honest answer would be great.

thanks
