I have iMovie 09 installed, version 8.0.1, but the installer claims I don't need the update and won't install it. What gives?

I have version 8.0.1 of iMovie installed - great product for our use - but VersionTracker Pro keeps reporting that the installed version is 7.1.4 (585) - which is incorrect - and I checked - I only have 1 version installed, and a "get info" shows it is 8.0.1. I reported it to VersionTracker 2 weeks ago - it is still showing - anyone else?

I am so glad to know that I am not the only one who is having trouble with the new version of iMovie. While it has a number of features that are very useful, they have removed (or hidden) a great number of the features that made iMovie so easy to use in its previous versions. I actually made the attempt to use an older version of iMovie that I have on the laptop that I just upgraded. The problem that I encountered with doing this, is that the processor on that computer is so much slower than on my new MacBook Pro, that it would take what seems a million years just to import the video clips that I shot with the iSight camera on my new laptop and then proceeded to edit in the new version of iMovie.

What are you supposed to do when you have a deadline to meet and the features that you had counted on still being included in the new version simply disappear!

I have even gone to the effort of downloading a 30 day trial of Adobe's Premier Pro CS4! The problem with that is that there are far more features than I will probably ever need, and the process that it takes to do what used to be rather simple tasks in the older versions of iMovie, now take what seems like hours to complete.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get around this problem? Are there any other programs out there that might offer the capability as well as simplicity that the older versions of iMovie had? Or is there a way to download an older version of iMovie?

In all reality, the program developers at Apple really missed the boat when it comes to the simplicity that the iLife and I work applications have come to be known for. I do hope that Apple will fix these issues in future releases of iLife.
