Keyspan USB adapters Troubleshooting ReportCrashes - Version: 2.3, 6/7/2007 05:35PM PST

Where these crashes with 2.3 or the latest 2.4 they have available? As of this posting, VT still shows only up to 2.3, but that's incorrect.

Keyspan USB adapters Troubleshooting ReportKernel panic immediately after install - Version: 2.3, 1/14/2007 10:39AM PST

My MacBook Pro got a kernel panic a few seconds after installing this driver. However after a reboot, the MBP appears to be stable. The Keyspan device is also visible. I had no previous Keyspan drivers installed afaik. Will file a review after I connect to my serial device.

Keyspan USB adapters Troubleshooting ReportAvoiding the Big Crash - Version: 2.3, 11/26/2006 02:04PM PST

IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM:

My Mac kept crashing about 5/6th of the way into using this upgrade. And I don't just mean that the installer crashed but that the whole computer crashed.

HOW YOU MIGHT WORK AROUND THIS PROBLEM:

Reboot your Mac. The instant the screen clears and the boot process begins, press down and hold down the "shift" key. I'm not certain when it is 'safe' to let up on the "shift" key so you might just want to continue holding it down until your Mac is 100% up and running.

Now run the Keyspan installer.

WHY IT WORKS:

I'm not sure. Someone who knows more about drivers will probably know but I'm guessing that because a "shift" boot causes the Mac to skip loading 3rd party software and drivers (presumably this includes the Keyspan drivers), the installer is able to cover the old drivers with the new versions without the added roadblock of having the older drivers running at the time. But that's just a guess. Good luck!

Keyspan USB adapters CommentaryWrong Requirements in info on VT - Version: 2.2, 8/28/2006 04:03AM PST

You've got the wrong system requirements for this product.

On Keyspans site it says:
For Mac OS X 10.2.8 - 10.4.x
for ALL Keyspan USB to Serial Adapters
Universal Binary

Maybe you need 10.4.3 or higher if your running 10.4.x, but that should be in the overall info, not the requirements.

ps. this is not the first product with this information flaw

I read a lot of negative feedback. I must say that I have not tried this version (since the only thing listed new is "universal binary" and I don't use this on an Intel Mac I am unlikely to update any time soon). That said, I have been using it quite successfully on OS X from day 1. It was very easy to install and setup. My hardest part was figuring out how to get it to talk to X Windows where I use it most often (Unix ham radio application). I just think folks need to exercise a little more effort prior to condemning a piece of software.

Keyspan USB adapters Troubleshooting ReportHas never been Tiger friendly! - Version: 2.1b5, 5/6/2006 10:10AM PST

I use a USA28X for use with an X-10 CP290 and found that this device stopped working properly when I upgraded to Tiger. Sometimes the adaptor will direct data to and from the CP290, but most of the time it will not. I have to unplug it, re-plug it, restart the computer and generally spend an hour fiddling around with USB devices. I can usually get the thing to finally work enough to reprogram the CP290, but when I need to modify it again the same nonsense starts all over again.

I was hoping that this version would fix the issue. But, NO!

How hard would it be for Keyspan to come up with a set of drivers that would work in OS X as well as it did in OS 9?

Keyspan USB adapters CommentaryNever worked os OS X - Version: 2.1b5, 5/5/2006 10:13PM PST

I have used a 2 ports Keyspan USB to serial adapter to connect an Epson Stylus 850 to a G4 since Mac OS 8.6 era, and it worked quite fine with systems prior to OS X.

In my experience the adapter, though highly priced, has NEVER worked in any OS X system version, from Panther to the currently running Tiger 10.4.6.

I think I'll just stop to give it further trials on future "updates".

Keyspan USB adapters ReviewUpdate is fine with Tiger - Version: 2.0, 1/30/2006 06:30AM PST

I'm not sure if it was that it was a new Mac, or that I hadn't actually used it since Tiger, but the old version no longer worked.

This was did, and does. It provides superior reliability and performance with my Garmin eTrex GPS and Route 66, overcoming the slightly glitchy behaviour of the earlier combination of soft and hardware I was using.

What more can be said? I ditched my Belkin because they didn't support OSX. Keyspan have supported this one ever since I got it.
