Hopeless - Version: 3.5.5, 11/29/2009 11:03PM PST

Firefox 3.5.5 is garbage - constantly stall. Tried disabling the one add-on I use (Adblock Plus), cleaned caches, checked my fonts, uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted prefs, profiles - still slow, still stalls on numerous websites - hopeless. Gone back to Safari & Camino until The Mozilla crowd can get their act together. No stars here.

I <3 Firefox and generally recommend it to everyone, but this version is a real dog. Broke my TweetGrid, makes other sites not load completely or look really strange. Going back at least to the original 3.5 :-P
I've been running FFX 3.5.5 now for about a month and it has been running beautifully on both my Macs (each running SL 10.6.2). I started using FFX simply as a backup to Safari 4 b/c Google Gears is now unsupported in Snow Leopard, so it was my backup for some of the G-Apps that I use. Also, some of the academic sites I use at my university are always Safari-friendly (ie. Turnitin.com, Blackboard, etc.) but using FFX I don't have any issues.
I slowly started to find myself using FFX more and more as I found various add ons that I appreciated having, as opposed to Safari. Safari is a very good browser, yet it is very sterile and unexciting. Granted it's only a browser, and has but one job--browse the web--however, FFX has a lot of features (all free) that I found to be real time savers and enhancements to my Internet travels.
Examples.
Weave - 100% free syncing your booksmarks, passwords, history, etc., between multiple Firefox clients on Windows and Mac == Priceless
Personas - Beautiful skin app (provided by Mozilla Labs)
Google Gears Support under Snow Leopard -- I use Gmail Offline and Google Docs, so this is crucial for me.
Ad blockers - There are a plethora of Ad Blockers out there, pick one that you like. Safari only offers a pop-up blocker. There are add ons for blocking Flash, Java script, ads, etc.etc.etc.
3.5.5 supports gesturing on my unibody MBP (3 finger forward, backward, all the way to the top, all the way to the bottom quick scrolling).
Everybody will have their own, personal favorite browser. I just love FFX b/c it's so customizable and never has a problem.
I dropped 1/2 a star b/c I think FFX performance needs to at least match that of Safari. I did some tinkering around in Activity Monitor the other day and noticed that Safari uses a tad more memory than FFX (probably contributing to it's fast javascript performance). Still, for me, I haven't noticed that much of a difference in browsing speed between the two. Judge for yourself!
