if you want a grip on your net without the hassle - just try - it's superb indeed like other posters mentioned... even an old machine will do - but is nice on faster iron too :-) strong recomendation on my part ... and if you compare the price to other tools and the ease of use - go and get it, put it on your powerbook - go into any net - plugin in and see - five stars and ps: the support is second to none - thank You guys for making my life as a network admin a lot easier (and since so many years reliable).

Still great and all the network Unix/Windows guys depend on it for notification of problems. Love how easy it is to configure on the Mac! Emails cell phones to key people for their servers, emails others for status updates, web sites produced are visited by many and even dials out to cell phones when the Internet goes down (or our connection to it)! All handled easily by an old iMac.

to handle access points based on the Karlnet MIB. If you're asking to have it handle the Orinoco MIB, then I'll take that as a feature request. Thanks! Rich Brown, support@dartware.com

what Netsaint can do, they actually are complimentary products. Intermapper is great for doing just that mapping a network, seeing congestion points, etc. We use a combination of Intermapper, Netsaint and MRTG as well. Just like its not the best idea to use JUST a firewall to protect a network (you really should have a firewall setup, a IDS (like snort), and a product like Tripwire to audit system level files. Same is true for large scale network monitoring. I have yet to find a product that does everything perfect, and good to have multiple views of a problem. ie: Intermapper, Netsaint and MRTG...nuff said...

the development of InterMapper for over four years now and it has always satisfied me. It's a great application made by dedicated people. They usually hear the suggestions of their clients and try to implement the less frivolous ones (I am still waiting for a 3D interface a la "Tin Space"..:). The product is and will always be one of my favorites and has helped me many times justify the purchase of macs against PCs. I also see a lot of the "There are free tools in Unix that do this, this is commercial garbage" and I must say it's a saddening attitude. This is a program that non-techies can use within two minutes. This is a program and allows experts to troubleshoot and monitor huge networks graphically. Heck, it even allows them to make maps for their bosses to understand the topology of the net. Strictly speaking one could duplicate 90% of the funcionality of Intermapper with a bunch of shell scripts and ping, but that doesn't mean IM is not worth its price. I couple InterMapper with Big Brother and MRTG in unix and it's perfect. I would fix a few things, tho'. I would make Intermapper remote part of the main application, served through the web server, I would enable access to the log files either through an ftp server or directly through the web server and/or a better way to manage stats and be able to export them (like listings of machines with selectable fields for exporting), etc... And why not, I'll keep asking for my 3D interface to feel like Max Headroom..:-)

X is an awesome combination! All I'm waiting for are drill-down maps along the lines of HPOV. Can't wait for version 4...
