Product Description:

InterMapper points out network problems -- often before users and customers suffer downtime or poor performance. SNMP and ping probes discover and query elements across your distributed network - whether it spans several rooms, a building, an office park, or distributed locations. Synthetic transactions test critical applications and alert you to email, web, or directory server problems. It's easy to set up - you'll be working in a couple hours.

What's new in this version:

  • [LATERAL] More debug logging for certain types of DNS message errors.
  • [BUG FIX] Better table alignment on web interface device list with non-ASCII characters or high packet/byte counts(67376)
  • [BUG FIX] When a MIB is re-imported, we now correctly use the new definitions. (59152)
  • [BUG FIX] We now prevent crashes caused by getting a result of zero bytes received from a UDP socket (indicating graceful closure). (Windows only.) (67377, 67610)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a crash when two snmpwalks with different SNMP versions were running at the same time on the same device. (68380)
  • [BUG FIX] Customized interface RX speed was not saved correctly in map file. (68493)

This is the first time I've felt compelled to leave feedback on an application. This application is one of those that forces you to have a control menu item from installation, and it wants to always run something in the background. The app is neat, no doubt, flow maps of your network if you want it, but do you really want it all the time? So I was just trying it out... my curiosity satisfied, I try to uninstall it, but there is no uninstaller, nor a custom install button in the installer that will allow a neat easy uninstall. This is irresponsible.

So here's a tip if you want to uninstall.
First, kill the app
open Terminal, enter

ps ax

scan for "intermapper," (can use f)
kill the appropriate processes.

then, still in terminal, type

lsbom /Library/Receipts/InterMapper-4.4.pkg/Contents/Archive.bom -pf | more

and see where it put all its files (most in the .app, but a handful in other hidden places) and make sure not to delete common directories, like ../man or /usr, just the files the intermapper installer put there.

then the last thing you do use spotlight to scan for "intermapper" and delete everything it finds.

if you want a grip on your net without the hassle - just try - it's superb indeed like other posters mentioned... even an old machine will do - but is nice on faster iron too :-) strong recomendation on my part ... and if you compare the price to other tools and the ease of use - go and get it, put it on your powerbook - go into any net - plugin in and see - five stars and ps: the support is second to none - thank You guys for making my life as a network admin a lot easier (and since so many years reliable).

Still great and all the network Unix/Windows guys depend on it for notification of problems. Love how easy it is to configure on the Mac! Emails cell phones to key people for their servers, emails others for status updates, web sites produced are visited by many and even dials out to cell phones when the Internet goes down (or our connection to it)! All handled easily by an old iMac.
