Product Description:

InterMapper points out network problems -- often before users and customers suffer downtime or poor performance. SNMP and ping probes discover and query elements across your distributed network - whether it spans several rooms, a building, an office park, or distributed locations. Synthetic transactions test critical applications and alert you to email, web, or directory server problems. It's easy to set up - you'll be working in a couple hours.

What's new in this version:

  • [LATERAL] Added a raw server command "regenerateuuid" to forcefully regenerate an IM Server's UUID for IMDatabase testing.
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed handle leak that could cause NT Services probes to fail with the error "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation" or related errors. (74451)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed display of multiple edges in the web interface when some were hidden. (74250)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed display of the status window in Google Earth. (74367)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed modem initialization for SMS notifiers on Windows. (74744)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a crash that could occur when a version of the InterMapper GUI or IMRA earlier than 5.1 attempted to set the probe on a probe group, or when a probe group was part of a mass execution in the 5.1 version of the InterMapper GUI or IMRA. (74603, 74809)
  • [BUG FIX] Address field text should have whitespace trimmed off ends. (74883)
  • [BUG FIX] Re-implemented IMDatabase export of datapoints using asynchronous I/O. This makes it much faster. Linux 2.4 kernels and aio-less FreeBSD kernels still use synchronous reads.
  • [BUG FIX] The built-in web server now streams large files from disk using asychronous I/O also.
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed an obscure bug which caused an assertion to fail when more than one compression stream was active simultaneously.
  • [BUG FIX] The Chart Data folder on Mac OS X has been renamed to include .noindex. This small change improves IMDatabase performance when there are many chart data files, due to the way that Spotlight processes files when they are closed. There is now a symbolic link pointing to the new Chart Data directory.
  • [BUG FIX] If ungrouping a probe group would cause the user to exceed their licensed device limit, set the map to non-polling immediately, as we do for paste. (74882)
  • [LATERAL] Web access now uses a single authentication realm; this should eliminate the need to log in once for each map. (50087, 50099, 50100, 50118, 54181, 61397, 74937)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a potential race condition while installing extensions.
  • [BUG FIX] Devices with a custom icon and the label position set to "center" are now drawn correctly in the web interface. (74878)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a problem with Last Updated in the Status Window for devices using Command Line, Big Brother and NT Services probes. (74948)
  • [BUG FIX] Avoid ASSERT failures when a web or telnet connection being authenticated no longer exists. (74960)
  • [FEATURE] InterMapper will automatically assign names to interfaces in IM Flows, refreshing them as needed, every 3 minutes.
  • [LATERAL] Changed the VolumeCheck text in the Mac OS X installer to suggest quitting the installer before re-running it. (75201)
  • [BUG FIX] Do not abort InterMapper server at startup if there are errors deleting files in the InterMapper Settings's Temporary directory. (74403)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed issue with 32-bit ifIndex's on switches introduced in 5.1.3. This issue causes interfaces to be reported down then up in quick succession. (74930)
  • [BUG FIX] Avoid an ASSERT failure when exporting datapoints and there are no exportable datasets. (75158, 75198, 75211, 75214, etc).
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a potential crash when setting a map which contains probe groups to use server thresholds after it's been using its own thresholds. (75127 and many associated crash reports)
  • [BUG FIX] The postflight script in the Mac OS X installer now launches InterMapper Console indirectly through IMCC. This change is a fix for the Keychain/$HOME environment issue. (75165)
  • [BUG FIX] Avoid ASSERT failure when an XML entity appears beyond the maximum attribute length. (74589)
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a situation where trouble regularizing an hrStorageType OID could fill the debug log with stackwalks. (75392)
  • [BUG FIX] Do not automatically assign names to interfaces in IM Flows, if IM Flows' build number is < 4660.
  • [BUG FIX] Close all connections to server extensions when the extension list is reloaded. This change fixes an edge case where IM Flows server is running remotely, but netsaw.jar is updated locally.
  • [BUG FIX] InterMapper will now allow you to add devices with DNS names that begin with a single digit label, in spite of RFC 1035. (75625)
  • [BUG FIX] InterMapper will not log a message to the console when you click Cancel in the IMCC authorization dialog on Mac OS X. (75630)
  • [LATERAL] Minor change to the maximum allowed duration for an MSPP license.
  • [BUG FIX] Fixed a crash on shutdown if a database export request was actively being processed. (75705)
  • [BUG FIX] Fix bug introduced in earlier beta which caused apparent socket buffer exhaustion and difficulties adding NT Services probes in Windows. (75834, 75932)
  • [BUG FIX] Barracuda probe did not work with new firmware version 4.0. (73085,76064,76086)

if you want a grip on your net without the hassle - just try - it's superb indeed like other posters mentioned... even an old machine will do - but is nice on faster iron too :-) strong recomendation on my part ... and if you compare the price to other tools and the ease of use - go and get it, put it on your powerbook - go into any net - plugin in and see - five stars and ps: the support is second to none - thank You guys for making my life as a network admin a lot easier (and since so many years reliable).

Still great and all the network Unix/Windows guys depend on it for notification of problems. Love how easy it is to configure on the Mac! Emails cell phones to key people for their servers, emails others for status updates, web sites produced are visited by many and even dials out to cell phones when the Internet goes down (or our connection to it)! All handled easily by an old iMac.
