URL Manager Pro Troubleshooting ReportNo Camino? - Version: 3.5b10, 4/19/2009 02:17AM PST

binosama
Even version 3.5b11 doesn't work together with Camino 1.6.x under OS 10.5.6.
There appear no icons in the Camino menu bar like it was with older versions. Finally I use it for many years since OS 8 or so.
New installations of boths apps also didn't work.

Will there be a be a running "Shared Menus.ape" again? When?
It seems the app lost its support, hopefully it is just a short sag.

URL Manager Pro Troubleshooting ReportI really need some help here - Version: 3.5b10, 4/1/2009 08:07AM PST

URLM with Safari 3.2.1 .. all of a sudden

1) I use URLM to save bookmarks to Safari .. a "URL Manager Pro" item then appears under "Bookmarks" in the sidebar after I select "Show All Bookmarks" (Cmd-Option B). Everything is okay so far.

2) But, then I drag that "URL Manager Pro" item up to the Bookmarks Bar and "URL Manager Pro" is added ... but with a square icon following the text, rather than a hierarchial downward-pointing triangle as it should.

3) This strange happening is more than just cosmetic because if I just single-click it all the hundreds of my bookmarks open in separate tabs .. rather than a drop down hierarchial menu showing as it should.

I have trashed "Safari.plist" file in my Preferences folder

I have logged in as another user and everything works just dandy and have rebooted onto my external drive and everything works fine also.

That is why I thought there was a problem with "Safari.plist" file .. but that approach did not work.

As I said, I really need some help here.

URL Manager Pro ReviewExcellent Utility.....Could Be 5 Stars If....... - Version: 3.5b10, 10/12/2008 11:46AM PST

But the archaic look and feel is in serious need of an update. I love URLMP, and it works with the browsers I care about. Granted, it only works halfway with Firefox 3.x, i.e., your collection of bookmarks is available from the menubar, but it seems that addition of new bookmarks does not work correctly. Still, precisely because I do most of my work in Safari, URLMP is particularly effective for me, because every time I have occasion to use another browser, all my bookmarks are there. However, the interface is archaic, more like System 8. Alco is a dedicated developer, and I just wish he'd bring URLMP into the Big Cat Era. That and complete Firefox compatibility would restore this to first class, 5-star status. But even with those faults, nothing else matches URLMP. I have tried every other bookmark manager, and they all seem to get the model wrong. URLMP gets the model right, and in that respect, it has no competition. [BTW, if someone knows of another manager that allows you to collect bookmarks from within any browser and make them available in any browser, without itself having to be the front & center app, let me know. I love Quicksilver, but apps like it are not the same. And I would gladly pay good money and give 7 stars to anyone who could integrate 1Password and URLMP functionality into a single app.]

URL Manager Pro CommentarySwitched now to Butler - Version: 3.5b10, 9/27/2008 04:12PM PST

Unfortunately UMP still does not work with Firefox 3, and the developer is also not saying wether and/or when a Firefox 3 compatible update will be available. After years of using UMP that's kind of sad. Fortunately I found Butler - which can do everything that UMP could and much more (and works with Firefox 3).

URL Manager Pro does not work with Firefox 3 anymore. Will there be an update to fix this in the foreseeable future?

http://www.url-manager.com/version35.html has URLMP 3.5b9 information and a download link for this wanting to test it out. I've used it for a few hours only but no problems. I am glad to see this being worked on.

There's a newer beta version listed on the product website. You can find it in the FAQ page: http://www.url-manager.com/faq.html

Also, according to the FAQ:

"URL Manager Pro and Spotlight and Mac OS X 10.4.8
The Spotlight importer for URL Manager Pro is finished. The Spotlight importer is a Universal Binary and runs native on Intel Macs. Secondly, a bug now seems to appear when registering URL Manager Pro on Mac OS X 10.4.8 on Intel Macs. Therefore, please download URL Manager Pro 3.5b4."

and

"URL Manager Pro and Intel Macs
URL Manager Pro 3.4 runs fine in Rosetta on Intel Macs. Some components already run native on Intel Macs, like the Spotlight importer and the new Add Bookmark plug-in. Somewhere this year, the URL Manager Pro main application will also be a Universal Binary."

There's an active mailing list/forum for URL Manager at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/urlmanagerpro/ and the developer has been answering questions there not that long ago. He also has a MySpace page listed at http://www.myspace.com/alcoblom, although I'm not sure it's intended for support questions.

I hope this helps! :-)

URL Manager Pro ReviewComplicated? For whom? - Version: 3.4.4, 8/29/2006 09:44AM PST

I think mkupietz really misses the mark with the claim of complication. More complicated than simply bookmarking in Safari? Yes; show me a bookmark manager that is not. By definition, adding a layer of storage/searchability will add some extra steps. But it's nowhere near as bad as he makes out. I routinely add bookmarks to URLMP with a single keystroke combination, just like any of the decent BM managers. But I love URLMP. Even with its antiquated look, it still exceeds the other bookmark managers IMHO. I tried iURL and WebnoteHappy [which is pretty good, but is too tied to del.icio.us], and while each has something to commend it, they still do not match URLMP. The good news is that there is a new beta in the works, and it is pretty nice. Here is what I think it needs:
1. stable menu bar controller; this is one of its greatest advantages; with the menu controller, URLMP feels like it is part of every app rather than a separate app; I have never had a problem with it, but others seem to;
2. automated sync/backup with .Mac and del.icio.us and Amazon web storage and anything else people might want, but not just one service
3. Quicksilver integration [this would rock];
4. newer interface like WebnoteHappy, or other Mail imitators, or even mimic Quicksilver.
