Product Description:

Trout Mask is a simple chat application with features such as icons, news, user level permissions, and private messaging. It is not intended to be a file transfer system, and most likely never will be. Instead, it is used for one thing only: chat and news. There are probably much better chat applications out there. But what the heck. This one is carbonized. And it's 159% Free.

What's new in this version:

The client now supports clickable hyperlinks in the chat window. Typing in a hyperlink such as www.stimpsoft.com or mailto:john@stimpsoft.com will appear as a clickable hyperlink in the chat widow. You MUST be connected to a version 1.5 Trout Server for this to work.
Soundsets are now available. 2 Sample sets are included.
Skins are now available. 2 Sample sets are included.
You can assign up to 10 hot keys for quickly changing your nickname and or icon.
Trout Mask can accept URL's passed to it using the "trout://" protocol via Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator (trout://trout.stimpsoft.com). You must add a File Helper setting for this in the preferences of either application. You can pass along a login name and password in the URL, also (trout://login:password@trout.stimpsoft.com).
Bookmarks are now saved as files, which save the URL, Login Name, Password, Nickname and Icon. When double clicked, they will send you back to the server with the same nickname and icon.
Numerous GUI changes and fixes, more robust socket connections, and increased security.
Server: Minor bugs fixes and security patches. Need if you wish to server hyperlinks for chat users.

of date. Check out their product info link, you'll see that they actually have Client 2.2 and Server 2.0 versions out - and they're both downloading for me as I type this! StimpSoft is no longer developing their apps though - however, some have been handed off to other developers. Follow the links, that little box on the righthand side is there for a reason!

to the download server. :( Anyway, not being cross-platform isn't a bad thing. It is good to have a chat/news environment that is all Mac - there are plenty of cross-platform options out there. That way PC trolls can't be a nuisance, at least not without getting a Mac, and if they buy a Mac, that's OK with me. :)
