Product Description:

ACDSee Pro for Mac is a fast, flexible photography workflow application.

The first beta of this software supports more than 40 popular image formats and allows users to view, manage, and print images.

Additional features planned for subsequent beta releases of ACDSee Pro for Mac include professional non-destructive image processing; digital asset management leveraging IPTC, XMP, and EXIF metadata standards; browsing of unconnected devices; and integration with Mac OS X technologies including Quick Look, Cover Flow and Spotlight.

What's new in this version:

Building on the first beta, Beta 1.1 has been developed based on feedback reported by users on the ACDSee forums.
Improved Features in Beta 1.1:
- Now available for OSX 10.6 -"Quick Look" Integration: With "Quick Look" integration, you can now preview multiple file formats in a pop-up window using the OS' Quick Look feature. You can also take advantage of third party Quick Look plug-ins to preview other file types.
- Dual Monitor Support: Now full screen and the pop-up window can be moved to a separate monitor.
- Mouse Wheel Support: With mouse wheel support, experience greater ease viewing in filmstrip and full screen and navigating the application using your mouse wheel.
- Open with External Application: Now easily open any item in another application from ACDSee Pro for Mac, providing extended flexibility for your workflow.
- Workflow Improvements: Beta 1.1 includes new options that allow you to choose how you prefer to navigate through the application including moving from Manage to View mode and back, and showing images in full screen.
- Improved Status Bar: With the improved Status Bar, now see image dimensions and longer filenames at a glance offering greater visibility of your important information.
- Manual Refresh: Manually refresh your file list for greater control.
- Folders Pane Scanner Progress: The new Folders Pane Scanner Progress provides you with improved feedback and performance when ACDSee is scanning a folder, generating thumbnails and retrieving metadata in the Folders pane. It's especially helpful when moving between several large folders.

It still lacks some features, but it is already fast and efficient. It would still be able to read videos in the software itself, without opening Quicktime. But already fully functional and promising.

I used ACDSee on a PC some years ago and really liked it. Since then we have Aperture, Expression Media and LightRoom. I realize this is a beta with limited function. But, to be usable, especially in a professional environment, it has a very long way to go.

I wish the company that put out ACDSee Pro continued to develop Canvas for OSX. Lots of unhappy customers when ACD Systems decided to pull the plug...
