Product Description:

SilverFast SE is a new solution from LaserSoft Imaging which combines the best of both worlds: high-end imaging technology for low-end digital cameras and scanners for a very low cost.

Images will especially benefit from SilverFast's intelligent auto-adjust and LAB-based unsharp-masking, which does not sharpen the color noise of single channels, hence avoiding the extra noise. There are many of the marvelous highlights of the full SilverFast Ai, such as:

Real-time correction
Auto-adjust with artificial intelligence
Professional unsharp masking
Color-cast removal slider
Simple selective color correction
RGB-TIFF and JPEG output formats SilverFast SE's ScanPilot� guides the novice user through the optimum steps for brilliant images.

SilverFast can also be upgraded to SilverFast Ai Standard with SilverFast IT8-Calibration and JobManagement. This allows batch correction and processing on the fly.

Maybe a good product, but customer service a problem - Version: 6.5r6, 6/29/2007 12:24PM PST

I've been trying to use this to get my Microtek ScanMaker 5900 to work with my new MacPro. The trial software seems powerful, and produces a scan, but it hangs consistently on preview, with the only escape being to shut down the scanner. I contacted pre-sales customer support in mid-May, and after 2 weeks, finally got a request for SF Logfiles, which I sent. I received some emails that seemed internal about how they'd "closed" my ticket, and then after several attempts to get a response, I finally got a response in mid-June, that made it appear as if nobody had ever read any of my previous emails. To date, the issue is unresolved, and apparently unaddressed. I figure that if this is how they handle issues for a potential customer, how will they respond when they actually have my money.... I'm not going to risk buying this, to find out...

This came bundled with my Microtek i700 scanner and I like it way better than Microtek's software. The only thing it can't do is work with the scanner's buttons. Microtek's software felt too much like Windoze, but SilverFast has a much better interface, even with all the windows it gives you. The instructional videos are an appreciated bonus.

Dear Microtek V6USL and SilverFast users

since version 6.4.1r3 you can define ( > "Options" > "Spezial" ) an inactivity interval after which the scanner lamp will automatically be switched off.
