Fetch CommentaryUpgrades are only $10 - Version: 5.5.1, 7/13/2009 09:18AM PST

Just to clarify - for licensed users of older versions of Fetch, the upgrade to Fetch 5.5.1 is only $10, not $29. ($29 is the price for completely new licenses.)

We have updated the product description here on VersionTracker to make this clearer.

I listed the main improvements in Fetch 5 over Fetch 4 in my direct reply to Sean's comment. We have been careful not to remove functionality while adding new features, but you can always try the Fetch upgrade for free for 15 days and make sure you like it and think it's worth upgrading. If you have any questions, problems, or feedback about the new version, just contact our support and we'll help out.

I've been using Fetch for like 10 years already. I actually don't really have any issues with Fetch except that the occasional recipient's ftp doesn't like it, but in that event, I just bust out Cyberduck. No probs, but yeah, Fetch is my preferred program. Anyhow, I saw this new version of Fetch 5.51 on versiontracker so I took a look, just out of interest. I'm not really looking to replace the version, I have as it does what I want anyway, but when I saw that it now cost's $30, you guys lost me. No thanks. My current version is doing the job and I really don't want to take the risk of losing functionality on a newer version anyway. How many times has that happened that a developer removes functionality on a new version and you wish, you kept the old. By the way, I'm still on version 4.03 I just checked and there sure seems like there's been quite a few updates since 4.03, so tell me, what am I missing? Is there a truly compelling reason for me to bust out $30?...

Fetch CommentarySorry Fetch, no upgrade this time - Version: 5.5.1, 7/10/2009 04:55PM PST

Used the product for years. Love the dog icon but sorry, no deal this time. I switched to Transmit which has a vastly superior GUI and didn't fail to upload very large files when Fetch kept taking a dump. Transmit is IMHO a vastly superior product, at least for my needs.

Fetch Commentary5.5 lets you choose more editors - Version: 5.5, 6/24/2009 06:49AM PST

Contrary to the review below, Fetch 5.5 does not remove the ability to select a text editor. In fact it lets you choose more editors than before -- any text editor at all!

We are happy to answer and help with any questions about or problems with changes to Fetch 5.5's edit feature -- please contact support.

Fetch ReviewUpgrade is a step backwards - Version: 5.5, 6/23/2009 07:47AM PST

islanddan--2008
I have used Fetch for over 10 years. I bought the upgrade and suddenly it did not use the text editor I have been using and did not allow setting my editor of choice. Fetch insisted I use another editor I had installed, I had to remove it to even try to use Fetch 5.5. After many emails with support I down-graded to 5.3. The preference to select a text editor was removed.

While there might be new features the inability to select a text editor makes it unusable for me.

The upgrade cost is $10. Kind of odd on a point release but a solid app.

Fetch CommentaryNote on Upgrade Costs - Version: 5.5, 6/2/2009 09:10PM PST

I gladly purchased the upgrade for this software since I've used it and I know that it's stable & reliable.

I don't know if VersionTracker allows the developer to list an upgrade cost. I don't know if they do and the developer neglected to post this.

I think it would be helpful to VersionTracker users to see this information so there are no surprises.

Thanks,

Fetch ReviewExcellent file transfer tool for the Mac. - Version: 5.3.1, 6/2/2009 05:51PM PST

I'm a web designer and needed a good FTP program to upload my files. Coming from Windows, I first looked at dual-paned programs similar to WS_FTP but did not care for any of them on the Mac. Then I found Fetch! Fetch works like a folder on your Mac. It's shows just one list of (remote) files and you drag and drop between it and your folders of local files. It's simple, straightforward and supports direct editing of remote files without needing to download them first (with supported text editor such as TextWrangler or BBEdit). I know Fetch is one of the older Mac programs, but in 2009 it's still one of the best.

Fetch Usage TipUpgrade for $10 for Fetch 4 or 5.x - Version: 5.5, 6/2/2009 04:40PM PST

Snow Leopard ready. Also the purchase price is $29.00 plus another $7.50 USD if you want it on CD and not just a digital download and a serial number emailed to you.

Fetch ReviewStill my favorite - Version: 5.5, 6/2/2009 01:36PM PST

I've been using Fetch since I was on my PowerBook Duo 270c, and the only real competition in the FTP client market was Anarchie (now called Interarchy). I've enjoyed using Fetch for darn near 15 years now, and have never had a real reason to switch to another client. It's interface might not be bleeding edge or buzzword-compliant, but I enjoy stability and reliability more than visual whiz-bang nonsense that isn't really necessary in an FTP client.

Fetch gets the job done quickly, easily, and without a lot of fuss. It doesn't distract me when I'm using it, and it doesn't complain about much. I would recommend this software to ANYONE who needs more than just a free FTP client and who, like me, cannot stand using the Finder to do FTP work. It's just a nice solid app.
