love with Compositor. I'm a wannabe-artist with no talent -- can't even draw a straight line. I'm also somewhat of a computer-idiot, but found Compositor (v 1.95) a few weeks after getting connected to the 'net (Oct. 2001) for the very first time (the only computer I had owned before that was the antique Apple IIc.) Compositor was incredibly simple to use, to create, to express buried cravings. I wrote a great Version-tracker review back then, but it went "poof." This upgrade is even better -- downloaded it for the first time last night, because I was terrified it might replace (wipe out) the original. Not so. This developer is beyond-bright; both versions will exist side-by-side, so there is no risk of loosing the original. Support is beyond-fantastic, though I'm not sure I ever needed it -- except I dreamed of a "cartoonize" filter, never mentioned it, and -- presto! -- it's in the new version. Kids love to be made to look like cartoons....or granite statues. naaah, I don't know the guy. I'd not his dad/son/neighbor; he didn't slip me $10 under the table. I just love this program. Compositor is simplicty in an age where complicity appears to be the order of the day. No one NEEDS a "Compositor for Dummies" or "Compositor -- The Missing Manual." By the way, trying to post this was a nightmare. Couldn't use my email because it was already registered, though it wouldn't allow me to post over a year ago? Do we need a "VersionTracker for Dummies" or "VersionTracker -- The Missing Manual" ???
This program ROCKS!!!!…

Not only is it one of the most useful graphics apps for artistic stuff, it is also a great tool for creating your own pseudo-rotoscoping filters for video work. This program is proof to the nay-sayers(like Micro$oft) that shareware and open-source efforts can often outdo the "big dogs." Despite the fact that Classic mode is not officially supported, I find that it works flawlessly in Classic mode on my 733 G4, and even runs faster than in native OS9! Very cool. Makes it a non-issue to wait for the OSX version. :)
Thank you all… - Version: 2.0, 9/13/2002 12:39PM PST
Artly There (Artly There Software)
for the kind comments. As regards viewing the image in reduced fashion, there is not an on-window zoom feature currently , as it was replaced with the Zoom/Magnify tool on the bottom right of the tool palette for this purpose. One can set the factor and then switch modes if one wants. If in frame or mat mode, the frame thickens up a bit for better visibility over v1.9.5 when zoomed out. I tried to add an on-window feature for zooming in/out just before release, but I could tell that I have some work to do with finessing the autoscroll first, so omitted it for now. The reason for the existence of actions replay originally is that you can apply filters to a smaller version, then replay them upon a larger version later. The results may or may not be identical, depending on the filters used, kernel size, and random mutations, etc., however. In the older v1.9.5, the left "face" icon at window bottom left will scale any larger image to the current screen size for easy workings and you can drag it out larger or smaller....Artly There
