Baldur's Gate ReviewLots of issues… - Version: 1.0.2d3, 1/21/2003 11:43PM PST

with this port. Under OS 9, the game crashes once every 20 minutes or so, requiring a hard restart. Under OS X's Classic, the game freezes, but switching to the Finder and switching back seems to fix it. Also, the cursor is "nervous". When I move the cursor, it vibrates and leaves a ghost trail one cursor long. After switching to the Finder and switching back, the problem goes away for about five minutes. Maps that have been explored disappear. Speed is also a huge issue...definitely not enough! I might as well go back to Virtual PC running the original...at least that version never crashes. One more thing SPOILER ALERT I noticed a bug that prevents the plot from advancing after you kill the guys at the top of the Iron Throne (it's been awhile since I last played, but there's a doppleganger posing as a diplomat and a LOT of powerful bad guys up there). I kill 'em and leave, but no one's there to meet me, and nothing I do seems to further the adventure. I restarted and got to that point again, but the plot advanced as normal. I ordered Tales of the Sword Coast from Graphsim, but by the time it arrived, I had already beaten the game and lost interest (much too buggy for any replay value). Graphsim also never responded to any of my e-mails requesting technical support.

Baldur's Gate ReviewSpoiler Warning! All… - Version: 1.0.2d3, 6/23/2001 10:51AM PST

in all, the game is quite good, but there are several let-downs that will make this a dustcollector on my shelf. I finished the game some time ago, and realized that I was not tempted to start again with new characters. Why? Well, I hate the waiting while the characters stroll leasurely through a map, I REALLY hate the AI that avoids obstacles for the characters (or should I say seek out obstacles), it really sucks. I made the "mistake" to enter the city of Baldur's Gate before I had completet the outer areas, thinking I could return later. Oh no, that is not possible, when you have entered the city you can not return. WHAT A BUMMER! I, of course, did not discover this until much later, when it was way to much work to restart an earlier game. Later, when escaping from the dungeon, you end up in the surrounding world where you started, but guess what, even though you have completed most of this scenario before you entered Baldur's Gate, all the earlier monsters and story elements are present. For instance, I decided to go to the Friendly Arms Inn to recuperate, and who do you think was waiting on the stairs? Oh yes, the villain you had so much trouble with a few hundred hours of gameplay ago. Now you just shoot an arrow and he is dead, but it stinks. Also, all the areas that you should know from earlier are black as if they have not been discovered yet. The end scene is frustratingly disappointing. After a spectacular battle, and after you kill the bad guy, the games immediately gives you Game Over with a little video sequence. Two of my characters had advanced in level, but I was not allowed to actually raise them up to the new level, as the game was over. The latest save game I was able to make was just after entering the last chamber, not after the REALLY HARD fight. No XP here. I would also like to been able to continue playi

really like the conversion of the AD&D rules. But the last bugfix v1.02d2 caused more system hangs than before. Is there no possibility to add some repeating scenes to the harddisk instead of reloading them again and again from the CD-ROMs? The loading time for repeating some actions is nerve-wracking.

this game in July, now 5 months later the slowdown has been fixed. I'm glad we're seeing these games ported to Mac but I'd to see it done with a higher degree of professionalism. That said, great patch.

Baldur's Gate update yesterday and did not really notice any difference. I still get the occasional hang as the "computer" appears to think. What I really don't understand is Andreas Thyholdt's comment about not being able to go back to the "Outer World" once you have entered the city of Baldur's Gate. My party has been walking through Baldur's Gate for sveral game-days and has even completed some missions in the city. I tried to take my party back to the "Bandit's Camp" and had no problem. Perhaps what Andreas Thyholdt found is only after a certain point in Baldur's Gate? If you are playing the game, it might be a good idea to occasionally leave the city and then save your game so as not to loose the ability to adventure on the "outside".

Baldur's Gate ReviewI have had… - Version: 1.0.2d3, 6/23/2001 10:51AM PST

major problems with this game. When i first got it, I had no problems and it was great. ut Ever since i got into the city areas of baldurs gate I have had serious problems. The most major one is, When I return to a previously completed area, or an area that i have already been (Inside and out of the city) The game shows it as if I have never been there!! The whole area is blackened again, all dead charecters are alive, stuff i stored in chests are gone! and quests that i have already completed can be retaken?? It litterally is like I was never there! I also have many other problems like, the game freezeing while i move from one area to the next. I then have to quit and restart the game! I am really upset at Graphsim for this! I also get the shaking pointer on the inventory and charecter screens as well as the Known movie sequence freezes (which are very common). Im glad to know that BaldursGateII will not be ported by them. Its being ported my an internal mac team at interplay and will be released in 2001 My advice: Dont buy baldurs 1, wait for 2. If you are having the same problems as i am, then send email to graphicsim. If they dont give me a solution i am going to ask for compensation. For me, i cant even enjoy the game! I didnt buy it to trouble shoot it, i bought it to play it!
