printer marred by a Network card that is flakey... MAybe this firmware update will fix it... It would have been nice if docs mentioned what the firm updated did. It only tells how to install it.

to EPSON tech support in Canada and they said "NOT TO RUN THE UPDATER" Unless you are receiving a "PLOOKUP Name Error 1028" This updater is to correct a specific error only and should NOT be run unless you are specifically receiving the above noted error.
