eFax Messenger ReviewCrashes on Leopard (10.5.6) - Version: 3.1.10, 5/7/2009 05:26PM PST

Application is ancient---no updates since 2004! Completely unstable under Leopard.

eFax should be ashamed they haven't updated this program in over 5 years. My business has paid them a lot of money since then, and the least they can do for their customers is make sure that their software won't crash under the latest version of OS X.

I send & receive faxes everyday with this software. The price is right, my faxes are more secure in a busy office environment (no snooping eyes) and I can view my faxes on the road. I have now set up 3 offices with efax, and replaced our old HP landline faxes.

eFax Free is free (and the system is reliable) but if the number of inbound fax pages exceed the monthly limit (read their fine print) your account will be terminated with immediate effect. You'll get a rather blunt email telling you so, inviting you to apply for a pay-for account. The email wording could have been more polite but the tone was enough for me to abandon it for a lower cost but effective alternative (maxemail) since my fax traffic volume doesn't warrant the cost of the full eFax pay-for service.

I've used eFax Plus for three years, on OS9 and X, and it's been flawless.

The software works okay and I appreciate the Mac support, but on OSX Preview works flawlessly for reading received faxes, and you can send via eFax by simply attaching a PDF or Word doc to an email (Mail, Gyaz, Thunderbird have all worked for me) so I don't know that special software will be something anybody needs.

eFax Messenger Troubleshooting ReporteFax Messenger 3.1.8 has a printing bug..... - Version: 2.1.0, 9/29/2004 12:29PM PST

i cannot believe no one else has seen this, and the developer has not addressed this yet. All faxes print in landscape mode, regardless of printer driver, print option settings, or Mac OS version (have tried several versions of 10.3).
Version 3.1.8 has some nice features, but I am staying with version 2.1.0 because I can print properly!

eFax Messenger ReviewI get faxes… - Version: 2.1.0, 11/2/2002 02:26PM PST

too rarely for a monthly fee. But I don't like the ads. I would love a pay-per use service with no ads... Maybe a low annual fee of $5 and then 50cents per page to send/receive? But it is nice to get my faxes in my e-mail box and it works pretty well. But I also object to the proprietary standard - so three stars.

eFax Messenger ReviewI used to… - Version: 2.1.0, 11/1/2002 11:02PM PST

use eFax and was quite happy with the service. That is, until they suddenly canceled my account without any notice whatsoever. One day, we started gettign complaints from customers that they couldn't fax us anything. I then spent about four months e-mailing the eFax folks, waiting 3-4 weeks each time for a response, only to eventually end up still not receiving even an aknowledgement of the problem and being told to just open a new account, which would mean a new number. Unfortunately, we had printed our number on business cards and so on, so this was a real problem. In the end, we ended up just going the old fashioned route, installing a separate phone line and putting a fax machine on it. BTW, even while still a customer, I was disappointed with their lack of support for sending faxes from a Mac.

eFax Messenger ReviewWhile GraphicConverter seems… - Version: 2.1.0, 11/1/2002 09:12AM PST

to work most of the time, once in a while my received faxes are unreadable, the app won't print them, or it simply refuses to open them. Weird. This eFax client is simple, does what it's supposed to do, and opens all received faxes consistently. A few ads are a small price to pay for a free service, which are easily deleted anyway or even filtered out through mail rules. Thankfully they have a Mac OS X native version of this client now. Great service too - love having a virtual fax machine and the ability to receive faxes just about anywhere that I can get a net connection.

in GraphicConverter and skip some advertising - they are just tiffs anyway! Use pagesender to send your faxes to eFax if you are a paid up user.
