Withdrawal of earlier support for Virex - Version: 6.1, 12/12/2004 12:58PM PST

I am withdrawing my earlier support for Virex. Recent tests with Sophos on an OS 9.1 iMac protected with Virex 6.1 show that it was infected with 'W32/Netsky-J', 'W32/Rbot-FM' and 'Joke/De bug'. Pity Sophos cannot scan Compact Pro archives. There is some circumstantial evidence that the removal of Virex has increased stability.

the gripes. Virex 6.1 is the BEST antivirus app for legacy Macs! It's slick, unobtrusive, customizable, and newly updated virus defs are provided monthly for free at: http://download.mcafee.com/updates/datmac.asp Works like a charm in OS 8.6 and 9.2.1! I've used Virex for 5 years with NO problems!

if the utility, the control panel, and the dropscan function were all in ONE APPLICATION rather than 3 of them spread out within your computer. Good riddance what's the point.

But McAfee has released a new version 6.2 apparently. The New DAT files for Feb are for 6.2 so try to update your files if you can.
And try to find the placed on McAfee's site to update 6.1 to 6.2!!! Good luck!
