Product Description:

Render-Boy is an integrated solids based 3D modeler and photo-realistic "ray-tracing" renderer for MacOS computers. What does that mean? Well, using Render-Boy's simple graphic user interface, you can create 3D designs in a truly what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) point&click fashion. You can specify how design surfaces should look (dull, shiny, mirrored, color, texture, etc) and add working light sources to illuminate your design. Then, in one step, you tell Render-Boy to "render" it, which means create a photo-realistic image (or even an animation!) by mathematically tracing the rays of light around your design. You will get shading, shadows, refelections, refractions, glinty spots, even fog, and all of this is 100% automatic.

What's new in this version:

New with Version 2.3.0, you can also import DXF 3D geometry files to create more complex shapes.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

lot of high-end software at my school, but for the price, this is a nice, affordable tool to have at home.

now use higher end apps for the vast majority of my raytracing. However, simply because one uses higher end programs (with their higher end prices) does NOT distract from the purpose and usefulness of Render Boy. The program is stable, reliable, and does exactly what it states it will and does do rather nicely. For those just starting out with raytracing, or those with a limited budget, Renderboy does an admirable job. For the price, and now with DFX importing Renderboy is an outstanding value and will do as it is designed to. For those looking for a starting point and a reliable 'low end' raytracer Renderboy will more than fit the bill.
