Rocks! My 8600…

using 8.6 is quite lively with translucent everything and live updates. Of course, 9.x is a dog speed wise, so expect PowerWindows to crawl with anything less than a 800Mhz system. (my dual 500 on 9.2 is slower at everything, user interface wise, than the 8600 on 8.6).

I had my G3 400MHz set up. It would only run slow when dragging transparent windows, and you can turn that off.

Windows *disables* iTunes's live window dragging! (iTunes has its own live window dragging mechanism.) This also applies to SoundJam MP, iTunes's ancestor. Merism: assuming you left "multitasking" on, the unrefreshed area will only appear in other windows within *the same application as the window you are dragging* (this is a limitation of Classic Mac OS; there is no systemwide workaround). A specific application can be written to have live window dragging, but Mac OS 9 does not offer it as a standard application feature, unlike OS X which separates window position from the application.
