what I need it to do. I've come to the conclusion that if the reviews are bad, it's exactly what I need. :o)

4.x DIE. Lord-Chin: I'm not sure what you're talking about. Netscape 4.x's rendering bugs are legendary. I only use this version (4.x) to make sure that *something* is being rendered. ALL my pages are HTML 4.01 + CSS compliant. For more compliant browsers out there, I recommend iCab, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape 6.2, even IE. For OSX, there's Omniweb, even though that has its own problems. Go talk to Codeb!tch over at www.macedition.com. Please, don't design to Netscape 4.x, and let it die the cyberdeath it deserves.

that a growing number of websites work better in IE. I don't blame Netscape for that. I see what's going on. As soon as IE became the default browser on the Mac, I saw right through it. Apple and Microhell, together at last. I feel for Netscape--they will always be my favorite.
By far this…

version is the best Netscape out, forget about NS6 it's total crapola! The rendering is horrendous. I used to be a huge netscape fan, but unfotunetly I can't support software that does not comply with standars, as im a web designer and netscape makes my life soooo much harder. Even tho im not a mircosoft fan. I have to admit Explorer is the best browser out. and it does its job really well. Only thing I hate about exploere is when you click on a link, especially and image with a link attatched, it rendered a very ugly red box surrounding it. That is so dang horrible to graphic profecianals. Oh well.
NS4 should die… - Version: 4.7.9, 4/5/2002 11:46AM PST

I meant... NS6.2 is actually shaping up to be a decent browser. I WISH I could like Netscape better...

and all its awful inconsistancies would just die. It's not rendering a nested table correctly on a website im building. It puts a 1 pixel space above any image with an anchor tag. And don't get me started on its awful and annoying "css" methods. NS4 is getting relegated to using non-DHTML menu structures on any sites i do. I'm tired of it. NS6 renders much better.
Cool browser. But…

needs to render some sites more accurately/faster. E.G. non-standard-colored backgrounds are painfully SLOW, as if they are painted by 1 pixel subroutine. Some layout problems (with IE'd sites, possibly?). Otherwise this one so far is my fave in MacOS 9!

most stable version of Netscape I've yet used. It almost never craches or quits on my G4 / 450 running 9.0.4. I found Netscape 6 to be highly unstable, and also substantially slower than this version.

folder and did a full install (was previously using 4.7.6). Does seem to load pages faster both from the network and from cache. Hopefully, the fix for Communicator crashing on certains sites works. I'm sharing 4.79 between OS 8.6 and 9.1 on the 8.6 startup disk.
I'm very happy…

with Netscape 4.7.9. It's quick, quick, quick. Stewart W: IE exists for Mac OS 9 and X, and OS X is candy looking too... IMO OS 9 and Netscape are very good, far better than Windows and right now more usable than OS X.
