I wouldn't get this version if it's run under classic or in straight text mode. Get the Fink version as someone previously mentioned and you can run it in text mode or X. There's also a version for Qt which runs in straight OSX if you don't want to go the Fink route. It's got the same graphics and everything, but the control scheme is more screwy than the Fink version.

after tweaks to three makefiles and a couple header files. I was able to do it by making educated guesses based on choices (in the comments) for other unix flavors.

OS X version use fink. It'll download and configure it for you. The X version is ASCII only so you have to play it in Terminal. This shouldn't be listed as an OS X app.
