Another great update...

As stated below, it works great on IE 5.17 and Netscape 7.0.2(and even Netscape 4.80). It's nice to see that Macromedia still makes their plugins available for OS 9 users...which is, apparently, below Apple to do(thanks again Steve, for kicking an entire userbase in the crotch)...
Works great on 9.22 and IE5.17

Macromedia still coding Shockwave for us OS9-forever users is a miracle on its own.

I have been consistantly updating my Shockwave and Flash plugins everytime one comes out, and each one was better than the last. I'm not sure what kind of set ya'll have, but man...
As for not getting it to install into Mozilla or Netscape 4.8, simply just take the "NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave" file from the plugin folder of Netscape 7 or IE and just copy it into your plugin folder on whatever browser you choose.
As for the "Shockwave tuner", it's always at 8.5, that hasn't changed for a while now...and the update doesn't state that you're getting a new version of the tuner, just the actual plugin.
If you're having issues, try the suggested runthrough over in the help section of Macromedia. They have a little process where everything Shockwave(or Flash) is taken off your Mac, then you can try to install again. I've had to do it once, it was easy, after that, no more problems.

though previous versions have. Mozilla uses the same engine as Netscape so this is odd. I'm using OS 9.2.1.

Has anyone gotten this to install successfully for Netscape Communicator 4.8 under OS 9? All I get is an error message saying "Sorry, can't find the selected browser." It installed ok for Internet Explorer 5.1.7.
Ahhh, yes....

I hate Flash. Is there any web site using these for anything anyone would actually want to see? I think it is used solely for the web equivilent of ambush SPAM bringing otherwise useful sites to a crawl to load irritating ads. I don't mind ads on the side that don't interfere but between this crap, popups & SPAM the internet is becoming useless. I don't know what Harris Direct is selling but I do know that I will never consider buying it.

the "Shockwave Browser Tuneup"Extension, which is leftover from 8.5.0 r309, Jan 2002-but still gets installed- seems to help. I wish I could throw it ALL away, but I hate the windows that come up asking for it...

to install Shockwave player a kazillion times over the years on lots and lots of PCs running different Windows versions and now for the first time on my MAC. It cannot be done. I have simply never been able to install it without the most horrendous system crashes or just useless non-working installations. Prior to installing this my MAC hasn't crashed a single time in months. How many people, years and millions have Macromedia spent now on developing this completely useless crap? Give it up. It's worthless. Concentrate on Flash which is a brilliant product.
