Macromedia Flash ReviewThe bugs are bugging me! - Version: 6.0, 7/16/2003 01:55PM PST

I'll try to be courteous, but bugs are still bugs... never good to hear for a company I guess. The bugs in Flash 6.0 have been bugging me for a very long time now. I'll try to make a nice list with all the bugs I've experienced.

In order of (my) importance:
  • The famous (superannoying) bug where all the tools, properties and other extra windows disappear after I've tested a movie inside Flash. 'TAB' doesn't work then. I have to make them appear by hand again (Command-F2, Command-F3, F9, Shift-F9... my standard toolset).
  • When I'm trying to code in the internal actionscript editor and I go beyond the 100 or so lines.... The editor becomes VERY slow in responding. It also becomes very slow if I make a very long single line with a lot of code in it. After a number of characters (never counted them) The whole system pauses for a few seconds and then gives me control for a few seconds and so on. This bug is also very annoying.
  • I work with two monitors in OSX 10.2. Sometimes I open Flash and then the actionscript-editor's content is 'chopped-off'. It's like it has been cut with a knife. I can then only see parts of the editor.
  • Sometimes (after switching to Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator) I've lost all my shortcut keys. I have to restart Flash to get them back.

That's it... there might be a few missing things here... but none as I can remember. I really wish Macromedia would at least give us an update so we won't have to use an external editor for code-which-has-more-than-hundred-lines.

Macromedia Flash ReviewToo Bad... - Version: 6.0, 5/16/2003 08:17PM PST

As powerful as the Flash technology is, this is about the worst program I have ever used on the Mac. There are HUGE bugs that Macromedia has ignored ever since MX was released. Copying and pasting several frames can send your machine into the spinning beach ball of death...even on 1 GHz+ machines with maxed out RAM. Switching to other apps while Flash MX is thinking will cause all your palettes/windows to disappear and force you to reload them...the work area window frequently loses "focus" so that if you try to select it, it remains inactive and in the background. Flash MX feels like an early beta. It's a terrible shame that Macromedia chose to release this software as is...very shoddy. Even worse, they have had more than a year to release updates to address these problems, but have ignored their Mac user base. Please, everyone suffering similar problems, please write to Macromedia and tell them to fix things.
