Macromedia is the best choice for web designers.

is a good idea, but it handles the typographic stuff *very* poor, like kerning and such. And why does it takes minutes to move an object that has 40 paths, even a pixel? Mind you, I am working on a 500 Mhz G4... Come on Macromedia, make my day and take care of this issues. Maybe starting with getting rid of the 'Macromedia' interface? It worked on Dreamweaver, but not here

work. Seems to only look on the startup disk for Fireworks 4.0 - in this day and age who doesn't partition their huge hard drive? I can't believe that the update only works on installs from the CD. WTF does Macromedia offer the goddamn download purchase if it means you're treated like a 2nd class customer? I've been a MM evangelist for some time now, but between this and the DW/9.1 gif issue, I'm about ready to go back to Adobe for all my web needs. p.s. I'd suggest plastk lay off the crack as no one in their right mind would say that Fireworks stomps on Photoshop and Illustrator combined. I take it you've never had to design something, and more importantly, design something for print. Oh, and by the way, Macromedia is just as much a "corporation" as Adobe - to think otherwise is just plain asinine.

update errors? I replaced the application icon and it didn't work. I removed the icon and it still didn't work. It says it can't update the trial version....and then says for error 11xxx - to do with the icns resource.

up to the "corporation"...adobe that is...Macromedia has changed the design world. After Effects is the only Adobe software worth the investment. MACROMEDIA ROCKS, and FIREWORKS just stomps Photoshop and Illustrator combined...Macromedia is a web designers best friend.

and many others. These files then get modified, deleted and moved around every time you launch a Macromedia app.
The big problem is that these directories are writable only by root, which means that Macromedia apps have to run as the superuser to do their mucking around on these files. So they probably need to be installed as setuid root, which is really bad from a security point of view. Ask any UNIX expert around you.
It's OK to use some anti piracy mechanism involving hidden files, but it is not OK to do so in a way that requires root privileges or modifying directories that are crucial to the rest of the system's operation (/etc, /var/db/..., etc).
And their installer is THE worst I have seen. I could never get Fireworks to launch. Why don't they simply user Apple's package mechanism, which is certainly not perfect but works ?
