Reunion ReviewLong-time user - Version: 9.0b, 10/14/2009 06:38AM PST

I'm a long-time user of Reunion…I started over 10 years ago, having used FTM (blech!) before that. I have a fairly large (50,000+) tree, the vast majority of which was manually entered, with lots of notes & sources. What I love of about Reunion is the ease and speed of entering people & data. Once you learn the shorthand codes, it's extremely quick. I've often said that Reunion was perhaps the best program — of any kind — that I use… mostly in terms of speed and stability: it just *works*. My favorite features include the find and list functions and the ability to save marked sets of individuals. Although a few other apps have now surpassed it in my eye (InDesign & Illustrator, e.g.), I still think Reunion ranks high.

That being said, there are a couple drawbacks, already mentioned in previous reviews. The web export is too limited in flexibility. It might have been fine years ago, but it's not sophisticated enough for today. I've used other programs to export to web and now use TNG exclusively for my online database. Charting in Reunion is worse. I've never used it successfully. If I need a chart, which is seldom anyway, I'll make it in OmniGraffle or Illustrator.

The last upgrade I've purchased was version 8. I tried out version 9, but found no compelling reason to upgrade. I'll reconsider if they improve charts & web export.

Overall, though, I still love the program and would recommend it to anyone serious about their genealogy and who won't be needing what Reunion doesn't do as well.

Reunion ReviewCareful what you read - Version: 9.0b, 10/13/2009 02:46PM PST

Some of these poor reviews here must be agenda-driven. I've been a Reunion customer for around eight years and version 9 is much better than the earlier versions. Have also looked at and evaluated alternative genealogy software and none are really in the same league, IMHO. Support is excellent and you don't need to worry about patch-per-week updates, either.

Lastly, it's not a Windows port as it was never developed for that platform. I still think Reunion is the gold standard for genealogy software.

Reunion ReviewExpensive, limited features, good documentation - Version: 9.09, 6/25/2009 04:46AM PST

I have not bought the full version but I've tried the demo for a few days. It looks and behaves more like a windows application than a mac application. Also, it does not offer any good charts and the web export is really really bad. Even 1995 it would have been sub-par. 99 US$ is way to much for this app.

Looking at the other genealogy options, I've looked at iFamily and finally went for MacFamilyTree a few days ago (see my review on the MacFamilyTree page, excellent application).

Reunion Review99 US$ Full Version, 60 US$ Update??? - Version: 9.09, 6/7/2009 04:36AM PST

Reunion was a great software in the nineties, but it has basically not evolved since then. It is still the same, old software with the same, old interface developed for for System 7, ported over to Mac OS 8, ported over to Mac OS 9, ported to Mac OS X and ported to Intel Macs. With each port, it did not get better. The worst thing is that the software is very expensive for new customers. Existing customers who want to update have to pay 60% of the original purchase price in order to get a minor function update.

Don't buy it, it is not worth the money. Use either a free genealogy software in parallels/vmware for windows or if you can afford it, get MacFamilyTree for 49 US$ or have a look at the other alternatives for Mac.

Reunion ReviewIt just doesn't get better - Version: 9.07, 4/17/2008 03:49AM PST

I've used Reunion for almost 9 years now. Yes it costs more than the other programs out there, No it isn't perfect. But it is better than every other product I've tried for Mac OR PC. It does pretty much everything, effortlessly or as close as possible.

I'm a serious researcher, I add tons of notes and source information. I can think of things I'd add, a few things I've found in other programs, but they are all details. It's pretty intuitive to use and pretty much self-training. Just use it. It doesn't break.

I have been a long time Reunion user. I have used the product since the hypercard days. This product is the very best genealogy program on the market. It is probably one of the best software packages I have ever used.

It's rare to find a piece of software that is so very important to it's users. The developers of Reunion have alway, and continue to go that extra mile to be sure that those of us interested in tracking our heritage have the best and easiest to use tools in the world. I couldn't be more appreciative of their efforts. Just look at the incredible list of changes in this new edition. As noted in other commentary, this is not primarily a matter of fixing bugs and repairing things that were not working well. This is a matter of staying at the top and far ahead of any other software provider committed to helping us respect our heritage. Hooray!

Reunion ReviewQuick Response to Enhance/Fix Major Upgrade to Great Program - Version: 9.05, 6/16/2007 11:03AM PST

Same Title, and same reasons, I gave for my feedback on 9.03 are valid for 9.05 (and while not submitted, were also for 9.04. As you'll see from the list of changes, some are to squash bugs, but others are in response to specific requests by users.

The primary reason for this Feedback is that the VersionTracker statistics fail to recognize that a single Feedback has provided a rating and continues to report the software as "This Version: Not Rated". I'm hoping that by providing a second rating this version of Reunion will now include imacmike's rating.
